Liverpool interested in Christian Pulisic

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Christian Pulisic this summer and now a new update has emerged on the potential signing for the Kopites.

What’s the latest?

talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has confirmed that Liverpool have a genuine interest in signing Chelsea forward Pulisic ahead of next season but also details this could change with the completion of the signing of Darwin Nunez.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

Crook told GIVEMESPORT:

“I think Liverpool’s interest is genuine, or it was before the Darwin Nunez deal really accelerated. So, whether they need another attacking player now, probably, I would say no.”

Imagine him & Nunez

Although Crook takes the view that Liverpool may not make the move for Pulisic should they complete the signing of Nunez, if they did act upon their interest it could bring another fresh perspective and form a new well-oiled attacking partnership at the club between the two players in the forward line.

It is no surprise that the Reds are linked with a move for Pulisic, as Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of the former Borussia Dortmund star, reserving high praise for him in an interview following his brace against Liverpool in 2018 (via FourFourTwo): “He’s a fantastic skilled boy, and it’s not a surprise to see.

“He’s a smart player, and unfortunately the USA needs more of these players.”

The £42m gem who was dubbed “wonderful” and a “leader” by Jurgen Klinsmann has struggled to get consistent game time during his time at Chelsea but has shown glimpses of his talent in front of goal when given the opportunity to.

Pulisic scored six goals, delivered two assists and created one big chance, while taking 1.3 shots on goal and winning 3.5 duels on average per game over 22 Premier League appearances.

Klopp will need to prepare for the inevitable blow of Sadio Mane’s departure alongside the contract expiration of Divock Origi, and Taki Minamino is expected to be sold too summer.

With that being said, by only making the signing of Nunez it could leave Liverpool with a weakened squad in terms of goal scoring players, however, if they did make the signing of Pulisic it could be a great opportunity for Klopp to add an experienced attacking mind to bolster his forward line.

Everton eye Blackburn ace Ben Brereton Diaz

Everton are reportedly now fighting a number of other clubs to sign Ben Brereton Diaz.

The Lowdown: Premier League bound?

After 22 goals and three assists in the Championship this season (Premier League.

Clubs from the top flight have taken gambles on second-tier strikers before, such as Adam Armstrong moving from the Rovers to Southampton last summer and Ollie Watkins from Brentford to Aston Villa the previous year, so it seems likely that a swarm of suitors will now come after Brereton Diaz while he is still in the Championship.

The Latest: Everton target Brereton Diaz

According to reports relayed by The Daily Mail, Everton are now fighting both Leeds United and newly-promoted Bournemouth for Brereton Diaz, while Sevilla, Real Betis and Valencia have also registered an interest from La Liga.

The striker would cost in the region of £13m, given that he only has one year left on his current deal at Ewood Park.

The Verdict: Sign him

Once dubbed a ‘beast‘ by his Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray, Brereton Diaz is a handful for defenders, as his 6 foot 2 stature would suggest.

At 23 years of age, the Chile international will only get better with a taste of Premier League football, and with the Everton future of Moise Kean in doubt, Brereton Diaz could be the perfect low-risk replacement.

Also, he shares the same agent as five other Toffees players, which could help to push a deal through.

Spurs: Conte interested in Traore

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a deal to bring Adama Traore to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by 90min, who claim that, despite the fact that Barcelona are not planning to take up their option to buy the Wolverhampton Wanderers winger following his loan spell at Camp Nou, Bruno Lage’s side will still look to move the 26-year-old on this summer – with Tottenham said to once again be exploring a deal for the Spain international.

The report goes on to state that Antonio Conte is believed to still hold an interest in the forward after failing to agree a deal with Wolves in January, while Leeds United and Newcastle United are also thought to be keeping a close eye on the situation of the attacker ahead of a potential move of their own in the coming weeks.

Perisic 2.0

With it being widely reported last winter that Conte intended to deploy Traore at right wing-back if he was to secure the signing of the winger, and with a new player in this position reported to be one of the Italian’s priority targets this summer, it is easy to see why the 52-year-old has retained an interest in the Wolves forward.

The Tottenham manager has a history of converting wide attacking talents into wing-backs, having done so at Inter Milan with none other than Spurs’ most recent signing, Ivan Perisic.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/tottenham-hotspur-latest-news-updates-transfer-rumours-gossip-spurs-thfc-conte-paratici” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Indeed, despite having spent the majority of his career playing on the left of a front three, the Italian tactician deployed the 33-year-old at wing-back to great success in the Nerazzurri’s title-winning 2021/22 campaign, with the £9m-rated talent scoring four goals, registering four assists, creating ten big chances and averaging a SofaScore match rating of 6.90 over his 32 Serie A appearances in the position.

As such, considering the fact that Traore’s primary strength is his ball-carrying ability – with FBref ranking the forward in the top 1% of wingers in Europe’s big five leagues for dribbles completed, as well as the top 3% for progressive carries and the top 25% for shot-creating actions over the last 12 months – it is evident that the player who Carles Gil dubbed “unstoppable” and Xavi labelled a “beast” would be a perfect candidate for Conte at right wing-back.

And, with reports suggesting the £46k-per-week talent will be available for a fee of around €20m (£17m) this summer, not only could Fabio Paratici land Conte his next Perisic with the Wolves winger, but he could also seal what may prove to be one of the bargains of the window.

West Ham nearing agreement with Rennes for Nayef Aguerd

West Ham United are ‘continuing to hold talks’ with Rennes over the signing of defender Nayef Aguerd, reports 90min journalist Toby Cudworth.

The Lowdown: Moyes wants a defender

David Moyes is keen to bring a fresh centre-back to the Hammers this summer, after his squad suffered from a series of injuries in the position throughout the 2021/22 campaign.

Most notably, Angelo Ogbonna sustained a cruciate ligament rupture back in November, which rendered him out of action until the end of the season.

Kurt Zouma and Issa Diop also spent time on the treatment table; at one point, Craig Dawson was the only senior centre-back available for selection.

The Latest: Irons nearing deal for Aguerd

According to a recent report by 90min, the Hammers are continuing to hold talks with the Ligue 1 outfit over a potential deal for Aguerd, and the clubs are now close to agreeing a fee for the 26-year-old.

Taking to Twitter, 90min journalist Cudworth shared the news, claiming:

“WHUFC continuing to hold talks with Rennes over 26/yo left-sided centre-back Nayef Aguerd and an agreement over a fee is nearing.”

The Verdict: Shrewd signing

The French media previously claimed that Aguerd was the “real boss” at Rennes, while the Ligue 1 club’s former manager Julien Stephen said that the player is a “cerebral person” – illustrating how highly thought of he is in France.

Averaging four clearances a game in the French top-flight and ranking in the 93rd percentile for assists as a centre-half, the 26-year-old clearly has the talent to make the switch to the Premier League.

With The Guardian reporting a fee around the £20m mark, Moyes could be making a shrewd signing in Aguerd.

Rangers to offer Bassey contract

Glasgow Rangers are reportedly now set to offer Calvin Bassey a ‘massive’ new deal.

The Lowdown: Premier League interest

As per Football Insider, there are numerous suitors from the English Premier League eyeing a swoop for the 22-year-old.

They reported that the likes of Aston Villa, West Ham United and Fulham have all shown interest in signing Bassey in the summer, after impressing with some recent performances.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/rangers-news-4/” title=”Rangers news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell hailed him as an ‘incredible’ athlete after their 2-0 win against Hearts in the Scottish Cup final this weekend, while Giovanni van Bronckhorst has lauded the player’s ‘tremendous’ development.

The Latest: Deal lined up

According to Football Insider, the Teddy Bears are now preparing to offer Bassey a new contract in order to try and keep him at the club.

A source from inside Ibrox has revealed that they are lining up talks over a new deal, and will be offered a ‘massive’ pay rise.

He would duly become one of the highest earners at the club in a deal which would help to fend off transfer interest this summer.

The Verdict: Big boost

It will certainly be a big boost for the Light Blues faithful to hear that Bassey has been lined up for a new deal amid interest from the Premier League.

He has ranked highly among his team-mates in terms of average tackles, blocks, passes and crosses per game this season (WhoScored), and his ability to play at both left-back and as a central defender has really helped the team, especially considering that they got to the final of both the Scottish Cup and the UEFA Europa League.

Bassey is a key player for the team, so the Gers will surely want to keep him at all costs.

Leeds: Italian source makes James claim

Leeds United winger Daniel James is a target for Serie A side Atalanta, according to a report from Calcio Atalanta (via Sport Witness).

The lowdown: Tough season

Reminiscent of the entire Leeds squad, James has endured a difficult campaign at Elland Road having made a £25million switch from Manchester United last summer when Marcelo Bielsa was still at the helm (BBC).

Overall, the young winger has directly contributed to nine goals in 35 appearances across all competitions for the Whites.

Despite not setting the world alight in Yorkshire, as the threat of relegation looms large ahead of the final day, there is now believed to be interest from Italy…

The latest: Atalanta make contact

As per Calcio Atalanta, translated by SW, Atalanta have already made ‘contacts with the player’ ahead of a possible summer transfer swoop.

It’s claimed that the Serie A outfit and regular UEFA Champions League participants will look to negotiate a ‘low’ fee for the 30-cap Wales ace if Leeds are relegated.

The report also states that Atalanta chief Lee Congerton has James – who was described as ‘unbelievable’ by former top-flight goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel – in his ‘notebook’ following scouting missions to the United Kingdom.

The verdict: No deal

Regardless of whether Leeds can retain their Premier League status or otherwise, the club must do everything in its power to retain the Welsh speedster.

Capable of playing across a variety of attacking positions, the £16.2million valued 24-year-old has previous experience of the Championship with Swansea and would be pivotal should the Whites face the drop, whilst also being the level of player Marsch can build a team around in order to enjoy a more fruitful season next term.

Under contract in Yorkshire until 2026 (Transfermarkt), Director of Football Victor Orta is certainly well placed to rebuff any potential suitors in the summer transfer window as Leeds either look to strengthen their ranks or retain key assets.

In other news: Orta now eyeing transfer move for exciting winger even if Leeds are in the Championship.

Curtis Davies could now leave Derby

Derby County manager Wayne Rooney is reportedly set to face a huge battle to keep hold of first-team star Curtis Davies amid new transfer interest, according to The Mirror.

The Lowdown: Facing an uncertain future

After going into administration last September, the Rams were hit with a 12-point deduction from the English Football League, and after a second points hit ended up getting relegated to League One following a 1-0 Championship defeat at the hands of QPR.

Despite preferred bidder Chris Kirchner being granted an exclusivity period extension by Quantuma in his mission to take over the club, the fact that they currently don’t have any financial stability, in addition to a deal not yet being agreed, means that all of the County staff and players are in limbo when it comes down to trying to complete any upcoming transfer window business.

The Latest: Davies attracting interest

In a transfer update published in the last 48 hours by The Mirror, it’s claimed that Davies is just one of several Derby players now being ‘chased’ after their drop down to the third-tier.

The source further states that the centre-back would be ‘open to staying’, but is ‘attracting interest’ from his former club Hull and Championship side Bristol City.

The Verdict: A hammer blow

If the Rams colossus were to depart Pride Park this summer, it would come as a huge blow to Rooney as the experienced defender has been an absolute rock at the heart of that backline this season, despite failing to avoid the drop.

Davies has been a regular feature of Rooney’s matchday squads, having started all 46 league games this term, scoring four goals during that time, as per Transfermarkt.

Given the fact that the veteran is out of contract at the end of June, not to mention the current financial struggles that the club currently find themselves in, it will prove to be a difficult task to keep hold of the Leytonstone-born talent and deny him the opportunity of a move to a team in the division above.

In other news… Derby could be set to face a new threat ahead of the start of next season.

West Ham: Moyes now favourite to sign Premier League ‘beast’

West Ham United have now emerged as favourites to sign a Premier League ‘beast’ for manager David Moyes this summer, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Irons eye striker move…

Over a year-and-a-half after club record signing Sebastien Haller left east London, the Hammers are still without an alternative striking option to mainstay Michail Antonio.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-newest-updates/” title=”West Ham newest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

As a result, a new forward is firmly on the agenda for West Ham and Moyes in the next transfer window with recent links emerging to the likes of Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah and Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins.

Journalist Dominic King of The Daily Mail, sharing news on Twitter, now has an exciting update for Irons supporters on their Gunners attacking target.

The Latest: West Ham favourites…

According to the reporter, West Ham ‘will move’ for Nketiah if there is no resolution to his contract stand-off at the Emirates Stadium have now emerged as favourites to sign the Englishman – entering pole position as he explains in his article.

Taking to social media, he says:

“West Ham want to sign Eddie Nketiah and will move for him if there is no resolution to his contract stand-off with Arsenal.”

The Verdict: Get it done?

Rush Green officials leading the race for Nketiah comes as a promising development on it’s own, but does that mean he is the right man to finally end West Ham’s striker hunt?

He has been in scintillating form lately, starting all of Arsenal’s last five top flight matches and scoring four in that time – backing why his potential 2022 free agent status is turning a few heads.

Mikel Arteta has raved over Nketiah’s attitude and application this season, likening him to a ‘beast’ in training, and the 22-year-old can still get better going by his fairly young age.

While it is arguably a gamble to solely rely upon the youngster as a back-up to Antonio, for zero cost, he could be a real investment for the future while Moyes also scours the market for a more senior option.

Man City eyeing move for Bellingham

Manchester City are eyeing a shock move to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Three-horse race

The 19-year-old’s contract in the Bundesliga isn’t set to expire until 2025, but it’s believed he’s keen on making the move back to England and he isn’t short of potential suitors.

Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool have both been credited with an interest in the England international, but the Sky Blues’ name has now entered the fold, and it’s set to become a three-horse race for his signature.

The Latest: Man City eyeing Bellingham

According to The Athletic (via City Xtra on Twitter), Pep Guardiola’s side are monitoring Bellingham, though will have to seriously splash the cash if they want to be successful in their pursuit.

“Man City are one of several clubs retaining a strong interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham. If Bellingham pushes for a move, Dortmund are adamant he is valued at around €150M (£130m).”

The Verdict: One for the future

City’s current midfielders – the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan (both 31) – aren’t getting any younger, so it would be beneficial to make a more youthful, longer-term signing, and Bellingham would be the perfect candidate to play in front of Kalvin Phillips long into the future.

The ‘outrageous’ Euro 2020 star, as hailed by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, currently averages 2.9 tackles and 2.6 shots per league game for Dortmund (WhoScored), highlighting his ability to impact the game at both ends of the pitch.

Bellingham will know Erling Haaland well having played together at the Westfalenstadion, so this existing connection could give City an advantage over their competitors in the race to sign the Stourbridge-born talent.

Wolves could still sign Jason Denayer

Wolves could still sign free agent Jason Denayer, with the latest reports suggesting that the Belgium international is considering an offer from Bruno Lage’s side.

What’s the word?

After a deal for Craig Dawson fell through on deadline day, Wolves have seemingly turned their attention to Denayer, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Lyon at the end of last season.

In a recent interview with GIVEMESPORT, journalist Dean Jones provided the latest on Wolves’ potential signing of the 27-year-old.

He said: He’s still on the radar. The player himself is weighing up that move and whether it will be right for him.

“I think he needs convincing of his first-team opportunities and how this team is actually shaping up.”

Would Denayer be a good signing?

The Old Gold look short of centre-back options following the departures of Conor Coady, Willy Boly and Romain Saiss this summer, with only Nathan Collins arriving at Molineux as a replacement.

While the former Burnley man and Max Kilman have formed a strong partnership at the back for Lage’s side, earning three clean sheets in their first six Premier League games as a centre-back duo, Wolves could be in real trouble if either of them were to pick up an injury, with only the inexperienced Toti and Yerson Mosquera available as back-ups.

Considering the lack of depth at centre-back, an experienced international such as Denayer could be a great addition to Lage’s side, even if he does struggle to oust either Kilman or Collins from the first team.

The former Manchester City man made 139 appearances during his time with Lyon and has 35 caps for a strong Belgium side, so certainly represents an attractive option on a free transfer.

Lyon’s recruitment chief Florian Maurice was full of praise for Denayer in 2019, saying:

“He has all the characteristics we sought: he can play in every role across the defence, he’s got game intelligence, a good positional sense, he’s quick and he’s powerful in duels.”

Indeed, being quick and powerful are certainly the attributes you need to thrive in the English top-flight with the pace of the game often being rather frantic compared to other divisions in Europe.

Crucially, he also has previous Premier League experience with Sunderland and Champions League experience with Lyon and Galatasaray, so to bring him in for no transfer fee seems like a no-brainer for Lage given a lack of options.

While the focus is on bringing in Diego Costa as a free agent striker, a centre-back is also needed so Wolves should prioritise a move for Denayer as the Spaniard closes in on his own switch to Molineux.
