Big PictureIt’s almost as if there is malicious glee that follows Australia’s so-called decline. Ashes lost? Yay! Ricky Ponting accidentally breaks a TV set? What irresponsible behaviour! Australia are struggling against spinners? Wonderful! In some ways, it’s human nature to gloat at Goliath’s fall. At the centre of the storm is Ponting, trying hard to regain his batting form, trying to hide the Ashes blot in his CV with another World-Cup triumph. In Australia’s previous victorious campaigns, Ponting has led from the front with the bat but this time a question mark hovers around that possibility. Australia’s campaign in this edition of the World Cup could well revolve around Ponting’s form at No. 3. He got couple of hard-earned fifties in the warm-up games and looked to be slowly progressing towards recovering his touch. The bowling is led by another ageing campaigner, Brett Lee, who is scripting a remarkable comeback. Much has been written about Australia’s attack which stands out for its naked violence. The feeling is that they will either scythe through the opposition or fail to control the run-flow on these batting tracks. On the other side, there is New Zealand, who are playing this game under the grim background of the Christchurch earthquake. “For a lot of the guys, coming to training has allowed them to take their mind off things,” Daniel Vettori said. New Zealand have had a poor build-up to the World Cup, but they started the tournament with a crushing win against Kenya. Their batting line-up looks quite strong with the likes of Brendon McCullum, Martin Guptill, Jesse Ryder, Ross Taylor and Scott Styris and it’s their bowling which looks a bit iffy. Will their seamers be able to adapt to these tracks? Much will depend on spinners Vettori and Nathan McCullum, who is likely to open the bowling with the new ball. New Zealand will hope that the pitch will take some turn and they can poke at Australia’s vulnerability against spin on these slow tracks. It should be an interesting battle.Form guide (Most recent first for the last five completed games)

New Zealand: LWLLL
Watch out for… Shane Watson’s revival began here in India during the inaugural edition of the IPL. He adapted brilliantly and transformed himself into a smashing opener and took that form and confidence to the international stage. On Indian tracks, he likes to get on the front foot and scythe through the line. With Brad Haddin yet to learn the art of converting starts and with Ponting yet to get a regain his form completely, much will depend on Watson to set a solid platform.Nathan McCullum is not a bowler who causes sleepless nights to batsmen but he could play a crucial role if Vettori decides to give him the new ball. He is accurate and spins the ball just enough to pose some problems. How he handles the pressure of bowling against Watson, Haddin and co might well decide how New Zealand fare with the ball.Team newsNew Zealand have chosen their playing 12. Kyle Mills, Kane Williamson, and Luke Woodcock will miss out.New Zealand (probable): 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Brendon McCullum (wk), 3 Jesse Ryder, 4 Ross Taylor, 5 James Franklin, 6 Scott Stryis, 7 Jacob Oram, 8 Daniel Vettori, 9 Nathan McCullum, 10 Hamish Bennett, 11 Tim SoutheeAustralia (probable) 1 Shane Watson, 2 Brad Haddin (wk), 3 Ricky Ponting (capt), 4 Michael Clarke, 5 David Hussey, 6 Cameron White, 7 Steve Smith, 8 Mitchell Johnson, 9 Jason Krezja, 10 Brett Lee, 11 Shaun Tait..Stats and trivia Ricky Ponting is the player who has played the most World Cup games. He has played 40 matches, going past Glenn McGrath’s 39 appearances. He has also led Australia 23 times, the second-highest by any World Cup captain, after New Zealand’s Stephen Fleming (27). Australia are yet to lose a World Cup game under Ponting. In the game against Zimbabwe, Ponting became the fourth batsman in the World Cup to be run out on five occasions. The others are: Inzamam-ul-Haq (9), Asanka Gurusinha (6) and Javed Miandad (5) Australia have faced New Zealand 123 times and have won 84 games. In India, these two teams have played against each other seven times, with Australia victorious in all seven.Quotes”Nothing really changes from any team you’re playing in the subcontinent, you try and bowl straight at the wickets and you know you’re going to have to score a lot of runs. There’s no mystery to what we’re going to try to do, but the key when you come up against these big teams and big players is having the presence of mind to execute time and time again. That’s the toughest thing when you’re coming up against good players.”

Urhoghide backed to leave Celtic

Celtic will consider allowing youngster Osaze Urhoghide to leave permanently this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Lowdown: Urhoghide out on loan

The 21-year-old was loaned out to Oostende during the January transfer window in order to enjoy more regular playing time away from the Premiership.

Urhoghide had been limited to just one appearance for Celtic in the Europa League this season prior to his temporary exit, and he has since gone on to make seven starts for Oostende in the Belgian top flight.

The youngster will return to Parkhead when his loan spell expires next month, but it has been claimed that he may not be in Glasgow for much longer.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/key-latest-celtic-updates-4/” title=”Key latest Celtic updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Latest: Urhoghide could leave Celtic for good

Speaking to GiveMeSport, O’Rourke claimed that Ange Postecoglou could allow Urhoghide to leave Celtic for good in the summer. The journalist stated:

“It’s going to be an interesting one, I’m sure Celtic will consider this in the summer to see what they want to do with him.

“He’s obviously gone out to Belgium and done very well. Oostende are very keen to make that signing permanent, but I’m sure Ange Postecoglou will be looking at him.”

The Verdict: He could be better off going

Urhoghide seems to be a talented young footballer who has already made an impression during his fledgling career – he was once described as ‘immense’ by his former Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore – but all things considered, it would make sense for him to leave Celtic permanently.

First-team opportunities will likely become even harder to come by under Postecoglou, with the near-inevitability of Champions League group stage football requiring more stellar names to arrive at Parkhead this summer.

Urhoghide would be better off relocating elsewhere in order to not go stagnant and find himself on the substitutes’ bench every week; and perhaps a permanent move to Oostende, where he appears to be having a fruitful loan spell, could be best for him.

Lancashire brace for record loss

Lancashire’s bid to redevelop their crumbling Old Trafford ground could turn into a race to save the county’s future, according to their chief executive, Jim Cumbes

A storm brewing: Lancashire’s loss for 2010 could be up to £2 million•Getty Images

Lancashire’s bid to redevelop their crumbling Old Trafford ground could turn into a race to save the county’s future, according to their chief executive, Jim Cumbes, as the club prepares to post a loss of around £2million for 2010, the worst ever recorded by a county cricket club. The figures, which have yet to be audited but will shortly be revealed to the club’s members, follow on from a loss of £546,000 in 2009, and have been exacerbated by a costly judicial review into the ground’s planning approval which has delayed the £30 million makeover, and the hearing for which been set for February 28 and March 1.The supermarket giant, Tesco, put forward £21 million of the money for the redevelopment, which was approved by Trafford Council in 2010, with a further £5.2 million from the North West Development Agency contingent on work starting before April. However, a rival development, Derwent, who own the nearby White City Retail Park, has attempted to block Tesco’s plans, trapping Lancashire right in the middle of the dispute.”It’s a critical decision for us, because although we aren’t the party being judicially reviewed, clearly we are the ones with the most to lose,” Cumbes told ESPNcricinfo. “We’ve paid out £1.5 million in fees for all the advice on the planning, and the delay by a rival wanting to build another supermarket in the area has delayed all the funding coming down to us. We expected to see that money back in October, but we haven’t yet seen a penny, and that’s hit us pretty hard.”Lancashire’s problems could be exacerbated if they miss their April deadline for redevelopment, because that would effectively end their hopes of securing an Ashes Test for 2013, which as Cumbes conceded, has already been factored into their revenue forecasts for future seasons. “That has been our target from the word go,” he said. “We drew up a business plan on the basis that, having missed an Ashes Test in 2009, we’d be in a stronger position to get one in 2013, because Old Trafford has never missed two Australia matches in its history.”Instead, Old Trafford has been living on scraps in recent seasons, with last summer’s three-day Test against Bangladesh being their only such match since the visit of New Zealand in 2008. “We’ve undertaken our development because we know we weren’t up to scratch,” said Cumbes. “But we’ve not had as many matches as we are used to, and that is critical because a large ground such as this requires maintenance irrespective of whether we get Test matches or not.”A further short-term dent in Lancashire’s balance sheet has been created by The Point, the controversial £12 million conference centre overlooking the ground which was officially opened during the Bangladesh Test in June, and is capable of catering for up to 800 people at a time. Cumbes, however, is confident that the benefits of that particular investment will be reaped in 2011 and beyond.”We wanted to send a message out to people that we were serious about development, and in that respect it is part of our business plan for the future,” he said. “Bookings for the venue have only really got going in the last three or four months, and it’s certainly been very encouraging, but of course when people book events of that size, they book months in advance, not a week ahead. We always knew that the benefits of that investment would come later rather than sooner.”However, the club knows it cannot afford to rest easy for the coming months. “We are not ringing alarm bells yet, but with the amount of debt that all category A grounds are getting at the moment, someone somewhere is going to run into trouble before long,” said Cumbes. “At the moment the club isn’t going under, but if we didn’t get the go-ahead for redevelopment, didn’t get Tests and weren’t recognised as a category A ground, then clearly the club would be in some sort of trouble. Whether that trouble is just remaining as a small county club or not existing at all is open to debate.”

England cruise to 10-wicket win

Cameron White made a consolation century but Australia A could not prevent England completing a morale-boosting 10-wicket victory five days before the first Ashes Test

Cameron White made a consolation century but Australia A could not prevent England completing a morale-boosting 10-wicket victory five days before the first Ashes Test. Monty Panesar and Chris Tremlett collected three wickets each and, combined with Tim Bresnan’s four, ensured that all of England’s backup bowlers have found some form in their only match of the tour.Panesar was wicketless for the first three days but made three breakthroughs in quick succession, just when White and Steve O’Keefe were threatening to keep England in the field all day. They had put on 78 for the seventh wicket until the stand ended with O’Keefe (27) caught at mid-off when he miscued a drive off Panesar, who leapt in joy. There were more celebrations soon after, when he had White caught behind for 111 trying a hefty slog-sweep and two balls later Mark Cameron lbw for a duck. An innings victory was on the cards until Peter George and Clint McKay (19 not out) pushed the score along just enough to make England bat again, chasing nine runs after George was caught at mid-off against Bresnan.Alastair Cook and Andrew Strauss needed only nine balls to complete the win. The result means England will head to the Gabba confident in virtually all facets of their game. Ian Bell and Paul Collingwood made good runs in Hobart, while Cook and Strauss also have centuries on the tour, and the frontline bowlers are already in Brisbane adjusting to the conditions. The backups will be ready to go should the opportunity arise.Bresnan finished with 4 for 86, but it was Tremlett and Panesar who did most of the damage on the final day. Tremlett collected three in eight balls before lunch, starting with Phillip Hughes, who on Friday evening had spoken of his aim to bat as long as possible to halt the momentum England were building. Hughes added 23 to his overnight score and on 81, slashed hard outside off and was well taken by Strauss at first slip.Tim Paine didn’t last long and was lbw for 2, which brought Steven Smith to the crease. Smith should have been buoyant after being confirmed as part of Australia’s trimmed 13-man squad for the Gabba Test, but he had no chance to capitalise on his happy mood when he departed first ball, shouldering arms to Tremlett. The delivery jagged back in from a good length and collected Smith’s off stump, leaving Tremlett on a hat-trick. O’Keefe drove the hat-trick ball to mid-off, and then set up camp with White, whose century was a reminder to the national selectors that they need not only consider Usman Khawaja and Callum Ferguson if a spare batsman is required during the Ashes.White’s controlled hundred came from 158 balls, with a drive through mid-off for two. He played four Tests in India in 2008 as a frontline spinner, but if he is to add to that tally it will be as a batsman. The fate of White, like most of the Australia A men in this game, rests on how the first team performs when the real stuff begins on Thursday. One thing is sure: England are in form.

Além deles, Adilson cumpre suspensão automática e também é desfalque certo no time celeste.

Wolves: Bruno Lage’s update on Trincao

Wolves manager Bruno Lage believes Francisco Trincao has a big future ahead of him, amidst his expiring loan deal at the Molineux side.

What’s the word?

The latest report via Birmingham Mail includes Lage’s thoughts on Trincao’s time in the West Midlands.

Despite stating that the 22-year-old has a “big future”, the Wolves boss has not held back on what has been a disappointing season for the Barcelona loanee.

Offering a brutal but truthful sentiment, Lage said: “The first seven or eight games were very good and he received a call to the national team in that period. He was unlucky that he got the virus.

“The first three months were very good and he deserved to score. He had two or three good chances. In the middle it was not so good.”

The Old Gold boss went on to say: “We’ve talked about it since the first day because we’ve not scored too many goals. It’s not just about Trincao, but when you look at your numbers. One goal and one assist is not good.”

Brutally axed

The sentiments from Bruno Lage almost confirms what the majority of fans had already gathered. It does not look as though Lage will have Trincao at his disposal next season.

In truth, it would be wise of the Portuguese winger to find an alternative environment to shine, with Wolves’ lack of superiority in attack a large factor in his misfiring statistics this season.

Wolves have created just 35 big chances in the Premier League – a stat that ranks them in 17th place in the big chances created table.

Trincao – who has seen his lack of end product dubbed “ridiculous” by The Athletic’s Tim Spiers – has of course not helped himself or Wolves with his eight assists in 27 Liga Portugal appearances.

With that in mind, the £25m-rated Trincao clearly does not suit Lage’s system, so he would be better off returning to parent club Barcelona for next season, in a move that would suit both parties.

Teve gol mal anulado, teve bom primeiro tempo do time da casa, teve estreia e teve até pressão do time visitante.

Rodrigo Pimpão marcou o gol do jogo.
