Giles Clarke, the ECB chairman, has revealed that there have been three offers to play England in one-off Twenty20 matches worth US$20million after the collapse of the Allen Stanford deal.”I was staggered [by the offers],” Clarke told the . “But we’ve got a very crowded calendar and we need to look at those types of proposals – there are serious issues about whether we should be playing individual games for very large sums of money.”There’s a strong debate about it so I don’t think it’s something the board would view with much favour.”England played a Stanford All Stars XI in Antigua on November 1 for a winner-takes-all purse and were crushed by 10 wickets as Chris Gayle’s team went away with the money. The week was marred by a poor attitude from the England team and strong criticism of the event. Then, in February, while England were touring West Indies for the Test series it was revealed that Stanford was being investigated for suspected fraud and all his assets were frozen. The ECB severed all ties with Stanford, which included plans for a quadrangular event at Lord’s this summer. The ECB were strongly criticised in some quarters for their association with Stanford. The US$20million match was launched by him landing a helicopter on the Nursery Ground at Lord’s.

Rangers: Gerrard must unleash Kamara

Rangers are looking to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to five matches as they host Aberdeen at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.

The Gers are have not lost a competitive match in October, with their last defeat coming at the end of September against Sparta Prague in the Europa League.

Their last game was a 2-1 win over St Mirren away from home on Sunday, with Steven Gerrard’s side coming from 1-0 down to secure the three points.

One change Gerrard should make to the team ahead of the clash with Aberdeen is bringing Glen Kamara into the side ahead of John Lundstram. The Finland international watched on from the bench on Sunday and must now be unleashed at Ibrox to take on the Dons.

Lundstram struggled against St. Mirren at the weekend and was partly to blame for the opening goal. He was caught out in the midfield and too easily shrugged off, with Connor Ronan then firing the ball into the top corner from distance.

As per SofaScore, he failed to make a single tackle in the match as he made one interception and lost two of his three ground duels.

This suggests that he was not strong enough to compete in the middle of the park and that is why Gerrard should forget about starting him and, instead, unleash Kamara.

Neil McCann, his former manager at Dundee United, once hailed him as being “made of iron”. He said of Kamara: “He isn’t a big, physical lad but he’s made of iron and really strong. I knew immediately that he could handle the ball under pressure and not give it away, so he was perfect.

McCann added: “He’s a special talent. He’s lightning-quick but he doesn’t show it. He’s a player who takes instruction well.”

He has shown off these qualities for the Gers in the Premiership. Last season, the £6.2k-per-week beast averaged an excellent SofaScore rating of 6.99 in 33 appearances, winning 59% of his duels over the course of the campaign and making 2.0 tackles and interceptions combined per game.

Therefore, he could provide the midfield stability Rangers need to control the game.

He is able to win the ball back off the opposition and come out on top in the majority of his individual battles, which is why he should start ahead of Lundstram tonight.

Australia’s players go into camp on Sunday in preparation for the World Twenty20 and the Ashes, but the engagement will carry a new vibe with partners being involved in the four-day programme. There’s no military component to match the activities ordered by John Buchanan ahead of the previous England contest and cricket will also be missing as they kick-start the next stage of their gruelling campaign.Partners of the 25 contract holders can attend a tailored session on how families cope when the player is regularly away for long periods. Crammed itineraries are a constant complaint from team members and the Australian Cricketers’ Association and the side is currently in the middle of more than 18 months on the road.Counsellors, including Andrew Symonds’ therapist Deidre Anderson, will speak to the players and their partners in a welfare session covering the demands placed on them by the travel-heavy job. “It’s a workshop and will deal with the unique lifestyle,” the Cricket Australia spokesman Peter Young said. “It recognises that the problem is not just for players, but for their partners and kids, as well as the management staff who work with the team.”Another session will involve the squad being told the public’s perception of the outfit following research commissioned by Cricket Australia. The original data was requested after the heated series with India in 2007-08 and was followed up with another study this year. “It found that 81% of people thought the players were good role models for children,” Young said.Contract meetings, where the individual’s rankings in the 25-man group will be discussed, will be held along with medical tests and lectures on drug policies and corporate responsibilities. The 16-man Ashes squad will also autograph 100 bats as required under their tour contracts. The camp finishes on the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday before the Twenty20 squad departs for England to prepare for their opening match against West Indies at The Oval on June 6.

Hampshire have been hit with a pre-season injury concern in the form of legspinner Imran Tahir, who has a fractured jaw. Tahir, 30, was due to play in the county’s opening matches but was hurt during a game for his South African domestic side Titans.”It’s a blow for us so close to the new season,” team manager Giles White told . “We’re now waiting to see if Marcus North travels with Australia to Dubai before knowing our options.”Tahir joined Hampshire for the 2008 county season and was one of the better foreign signings, taking 44 wickets at 16.68 in seven Championship matches. Tahir, who was born in Lahore, qualified to play for South Africa as he is married to a South African woman. He became available to represent the country on April 1.He has taken 330 first-class wickets at an average of 24.79 and 77 List A victims at 22.62. In the 2007-08 season he grabbed 31 wickets in six first-class games for the Titans and 14 in eight one-dayers at an average of 16.50 and economy-rate of 4.21.

Everton eye move for Jesse Lingard

Everton have been linked with a move for Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard as new manager Rafa Benitez looks to add further reinforcements to his first-team squad.

What’s the story?

According to Football Insider, the 28-year-old is a top target for the Toffees as they search for James Rodriguez’s successor, with Benitez a huge fan of his.

The report states that: “Everton have set their sights on a January deal for Man United star Jesse Lingard in January, Football Insider has learned. The Merseysiders will be in the market for an attacking midfielder capable of scoring goals and slotting straight into Rafael Benitez’s side.

“An Everton source has told Football Insider that Lingard is on the club’s target list and Benitez is a big admirer of him.”

The England international’s current contract is set to expire next summer, and he’s reportedly already turned down fresh terms due to concerns over his playing time, meaning an imminent exit could be on the cards.

Rafa Benitez needs him

Rodriguez’s exit from Goodison Park has left Benitez without a natural creative midfielder who can also score goals on a regular basis, both of which are attributes that Lingard excels in.

After struggling to get back to his best following the 2018 World Cup, a short-term loan move to West Ham United back in January reinvigorated the £19.8m-rated wizard’s career.

In just 16 Premier League appearances for the Hammers, Lingard scored nine goals and provided a further five assists for his teammates, playing a pivotal part as David Moyes’ charges finished in an incredible sixth position.

His eye-catching exploits in east London saw him labelled “outstanding” by Trevor Sinclair after firing the capital club into the Europa League, but that hasn’t translated into regular game time upon his return to Manchester.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has only awarded the academy graduate one start in all competitions in the opening weeks of the campaign, yet Lingard has still managed to impress with multiple standout cameo appearances off the bench.

He added gloss to the scoreline with a well-taken goal against Newcastle United, sealed all three points with a sumptuous last-minute strike in the victory over West Ham and provided the assist for Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury-time winner against Villarreal.

Therefore, Everton’s director of football, Marcel Brands, must swoop for Lingard in the January window, adding the extra firepower that Benitez needs at his disposal to take the Blues back to Europe.

How to lose the minnows tag

Cricinfo previews Sri Lanka’s prospects for the women’s World Cup 2009

Sri Lanka are pretty certain of making it to the Super Six for they just need a win over Pakistan to get there. But what next? A fifth or sixth place will promptly send them to the World Cup qualifiers in 2011. Making it to the top four certainly won’t be easy, but it’s the only way to lose the minnows tag, which their recent performances will show they don’t deserve. However, Sri Lanka have not played outside the subcontinent since the previous World Cup and more importantly will also be on their first visit to Australia. Captain Shashikala Siriwardene has said her side could be the “surprise package” of the tournament and she isn’t far off the mark. While Sri Lanka failed to beat India in the Asia Cup in May last year, they beat West Indies in an exciting 3-2 home series the following October. They come to Australia having won a tri-series in Bangladesh, which included the hosts and Pakistan, and while the victory may not give them confidence for the World Cup, it will give them an edge over teams who enter the tournament without match practice. They have a strong batting line-up led by opener Dedunu Silva. Their bowling is anchored by spinners Suwini de Alwis, who took 21 wickets in the Asia Cup and against West Indies, and Siriwardene, who took 19 in the same period. They also have useful medium-pacers in Chamari Polgampola and Chandi Wickramasinghe.Know your competitionIndia have rarely missed the opportunity to thrash Sri Lanka, especially in Asia Cup games. Their lowest margin of victory has been by 29 runs; de Alwis and Siriwardene took three each to hold them down to 227, after which Dedunu scored 74 off 87 balls but received no support from the others. Siriwardene knows that to make it to the next World Cup, Sri Lanka have a better chance of winning two group matches rather than fighting teams on momentum in the Super Six.England last played Sri Lanka in 2005 on their visit to the country and won both the ODIs by big margins. In their current form they will be virtually impossible to be halted on their way to the World Cup final.Pakistan is a team Sri Lanka have never lost to and will hold a psychological advantage following their comfortable six-wicket win in the tri-series final.Stars of 2009Indian batsman Mithali Raj has predicted the Australian wickets will be slower than they were during India’s visit in November. With the season coming to a close, the pitches would definitely have flattened and lost some of their zip. Left-arm spinner Suwini de Alwis will be looking forward to turning her arm over on such tracks which may offer turn.Shashikala Siriwardene will add pressure on the batsmen with her offbreaks. It should be interesting to watch the two bowl in tandem. In the last year Dedunu Silva has stepped up her game, scoring 413 runs, with three half-centuries, at a strike-rate of 64.93. Sri Lanka will bank on her for some good starts.Squad Shashikala Siriwardene (wk), Suwini de Alwis, Chamari Polgampola, Dilani Manodara (wk), Hiruka Fernando, Rose Fernando, Inoka Galagedara, Gayathri Kariyawasam, Eshani Kaushalya, Udeshika Prabodhani, Deepika Rasangika, Chamai Seneviratna, Dedunu Silva, Sripali Weerakkody.Group fixturesMarch 7 – England v Sri Lanka, Manuka Oval

شكوك حول لحاق نوير بمباراة بايرن ميونخ الافتتاحية ضد فرانكفورت

Man City dealt double injury blow

Manchester City have been handed a double injury blow ahead of their upcoming Premier League clash against Liverpool.

After overcoming a tough test at Stamford Bridge in their previous Premier League fixture as a goal from Gabriel Jesus secured the three points for the champions, Pep Guardiola’s side now face another tricky encounter with Jurgen Klopp’s men at Anfield.

What’s the latest?

In his latest press conference ahead of the showdown against Liverpool, Guardiola revealed that both Oleksandr Zinchenko and Ilkay Gundogan will miss the match at Anfield through injury.

Both players also missed City’s midweek 2-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Guardiola will not be happy

With Gundogan in particular proving to be a vital figure for City last season, scoring 17 goals and providing five assists in 46 appearances across all competitions, this shows just how much of a big miss he will be at Anfield, where he scored a brace in the 4-1 victory over the Reds back in February.

While Guardiola will undoubtedly have preferred to have Zinchenko as an option, Joao Cancelo has been in stunning form for City, predominantly playing in the left-back position in the league. Also, he is currently listed as the club’s highest-rated player this season according to WhoScored with an overall rating of 7.47/10, which says to us that the Ukrainian’s absence is not as damaging to the team as Gundogan’s could be.

With only Ferran Torres having racked up more shots per game (3.3) than Gundogan (2.6) in the Premier League so far this term according to WhoScored, it’s safe to say that City will be without one of their main attacking assets from midfield on Sunday, which could leave the manager feeling gutted.

In terms of who Guardiola could use to fill in for the German at Anfield, the Spaniard has the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva at his disposal, so he certainly has a crucial decision to make when it comes to his team selection in midfield.

Looking even further ahead, Guardiola will definitely be hoping that both Gundogan and Zinchenko will be able to return from injury as soon as possible to help tackle the hefty amount of fixtures they have ahead of them across all competitions.
