Celtic are interested in signing Rochdale teenage sensation Kwadwo Baah following his breakthrough campaign in the Football League.

That’s according to an exclusive report from Give Me Sport, who claim that the Hoops, along with rivals Rangers and Premier League side West Ham, are eager to discuss a move with the 18-year-old.

Recent Juventus and Bayern Munich interest

Baah, who has played all across the front line this season in League One, is out of contract at the end of the season. The teenager has netted three goals this season, also providing two assists in 11 league starts.

Italian giants Juventus and Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich were thought to be interested in the youngster at the end of 2020, but a January move abroad failed to materialise and Celtic may now reap the benefits of that.

Baah appears to fit Celtic’s new transfer strategy like an absolute glove. The Hoops are reportedly (The Athletic) looking at UK-based prospects with high upside potential who are available either on a pre-contract, or for a nominal fee.

The versatile Rochdale ace seems to tick all those boxes, and with the high-profile sides recently interested in the player, a deal could prove to be a shrewd piece of business in the long run.

Reports have suggested current Hoops ace Karamoko Dembele will leave Parkhead in the summer, so Baah could well fill Dembele’s boots as the next youngster to break into the first-team.

Southampton have seemingly been in contract discussions with Ryan Bertrand for some time now but considering the left-back’s disappointing performances this season, Ralph Hasenhuttl may well be best served by letting him go in the summer rather than handing him a new deal.

The 31-year-old’s contract with the South Coast club is set to expire at the end of the season and he has reportedly attracted some interest from Arsenal in recent months.

Southampton’s only other senior left-back, Jake Vokins (excluding the injured Sam McQueen) was sent out on loan to Sunderland in January, which suggests that Hasenhuttl has a lot of faith in Bertrand as the first-choice option in his side.

The former Chelsea man has been a regular in Southampton’s team since joining permanently in 2015 and has gone on to make 236 appearances for the Saints, contributing eight goals and 20 assists.

However, his performances have certainly declined in recent seasons, with his average rating of 6.42 in the Premier League this season the worst he has produced in the last decade.

It is also the 15th-best of any Southampton player in the top-flight this season, which suggests that he has been of the poorer performers in Hasenhuttl’s squad, especially in recent months, where a run of awful form has seen the South Coast club slide down the Premier League table.

You could definitely argue that the 31-year-old has been a weak link in the Saints defence, with Jannik Vestergaard, Jan Bednarek and Kyle Walker-Peters all having been some of Hasenhuttl’s best performers so far this season.

It was suggested last year that Southampton were keen to offer Bertrand a new three-year deal, which seems extremely excessive when you consider that he will turn 32 this year and is already looking way past his best, so he could potentially still be at the club when he is 35.

The former England international also reportedly earns £70k per week at Southampton, which makes him one of the highest earners, and a new contract could see that wage increased further, which, considering his performances so far this season, feels undeserved.

Although Hasenhuttl doesn’t really have any options, other than perhaps Vokins, to replace the £9.45 million-rated Bertrand in his side at the moment, it could prove a costly mistake to extend his deal this summer, so the Austrian manager should just get rid of him and look for an alternative option in the transfer market.

أكد البرتغالي كارلوس كيروش المدير الفني لمنتخب مصر، على صعوبة إقامة مباريات ودية قبل انطلاق بطولة كأس أمم إفريقيا.

ويستعد منتخب مصر للمشاركة في النسخة المقبلة من بطولة كأس الأمم الإفريقية 2021، والتي ستقام في الكاميرون خلال الفترة من 9 يناير الجاري حتى 6 فبراير المقبل.

ورد كيروش على سؤال مراسل “بطولات” بشأن إمكانية إقامة مباريات ودية، وقال: “اتفقنا مع منتخب الكونغو على إقامة حصة تدريبية، وليست مباراة ودية”.

وبسؤاله عن اعتراضات الجهاز الفني للمنتخب على الحكام في كأس العرب: “لو تحدثت بجدية من الممكن أن تتم معاقبتي، لو المدرب له الحق أن يعطي بطاقة حمراء للحكام فهناك حكام كثيرون سيبتعدون عن الملاعب، ما رأيك في حكم يعطي رمية تماس لمصر ثم يغير قراره ويعطيها للفريق الآخر؟، حينها ستعود علينا بهجمة مرتدة”.

Many Liverpool fans did not hold back on their thoughts towards midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after his side’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Thursday night.

The 27-year-old came on as a substitute in the 62nd minute for Mohamed Salah, which raised a lot of eyebrows considering the Reds were chasing a goal and the Egyptian forward is their top goalscorer this season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been hugely unlucky since his move from Arsenal in 2017, suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear which saw him miss a year of football in 2018 and a serious hamstring issue the following campaign.

Fans aren’t giving him any sympathy though, after the game on Thursday appeared to pass him by during his 28-minute cameo. Per Sofascore, Oxlade-Chamberlain made no key passes, had no shots on goal and lost two duels.

With this in mind, supporters were not impressed with the Englishman’s performance with some keen to see him offloaded in the summer.

David Moyes should recall outcast defender Fabian Balbuena when West Ham United visit Manchester City on Saturday.

The Paraguayan has been unseen in the Premier League since December’s 2-2 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion, having lost his spot in the starting line-up to summer loan signing Craig Dawson of Watford.

Balbuena had opened 12 of the Irons initial 15 fixtures of the top-flight season before being axed away to Southampton and he has only served to act as an unused substitute for the seven games in which the 29-year-old has been included in a matchday squad since.

That’s also despite Angelo Ogbonna sitting out his side’s last two games with a high ankle sprain sustained in the FA Cup against Manchester United, when Issa Diop was favoured off the bench and Balbuena was ignored.

Balbuena has recently opened up on his situation with Paraguay’s Radio Monumental on their show Futbol a Lo Grande, explaining that his current status is a decision made by Moyes

“I’m quite well. The team is in a good moment. It’s not my turn to play for various reasons, but physically I’m very well”, Balbuena said, via quotes by D10. “The entire squad is fit to play [against Manchester City].”

With Balbuena adamant that he is fit to play, Moyes should recall the £7m-rated enforcer at the Etihad Stadium having seen his side frequently carved open by Tottenham Hotspur last time out, despite them coming out as victors in the clash.

Moyes named a four-strong backline of Aaron Cresswell, Diop, Dawson and Vladimir Coufal at home to Spurs as West Ham won the London derby 2-1, after deciding to bench Ben Johnson despite an impressive showing from the academy product against Sheffield United.

If the Irons boss feels that Johnson is not up to scratch to face an established top-six Premier League side, Balbuena should be brought in from the cold so that Moyes can switch his line-up back to a five-man defence at Manc City, without forcing Cresswell into a central role.

West Ham gave up 20 shots at home to Spurs last Sunday compared to the mere four taken on Hugo Lloris net, per WhoScored.

Harry Kane accounted for six of his side’s efforts, while Gareth Bale and Lucas Moura struck three each, Erik Lamela, Son Heung-Min and Eric Dier hit two and Sergio Reguilon plus Davinson Sanchez hit one each.

West Ham have, on average, allowed opposition sides just 12.5 shots a game in the Premier League when playing at the London Stadium this season, a total which falls to 9.8 when away from home.

Yet Man City take more shots at the Etihad (15.8) than any other side in the division when playing on home soil. Tottenham usually take just 11.8 attempts on their travels, showing the scale to which the Hammers were picked apart.

Balbuena could help prevent a repeat performance, with the 2020 free-agent still ranking first among Moyes’ centre-halves for successful tackles recorded per game (1.8), as well as the most interceptions (1.8) and clearances (4.9).

Matching his standing away to Man City would see Balbuena prove key to any potential result. It just remains to be seen if Moyes is willing to bring him in from the cold and tinker with a formation that’s served him well in recent weeks. Given City’s attacking prowess, it is something he really should consider.
