Leeds: Move for Camara falls through

Leeds United are no longer in contention for Mohamed Camara’s signing this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Austrian media outlet Salzburg 24 (via Sport Witness), who claim that, despite Victor Orta believed to have launched a €30m (£25m) bid for the Red Bull Salzburg midfielder this summer, the 22-year-old’s proposed switch to Elland Road has now fallen through.

The report goes on to state that Salzburg chief Christoph Freund has now ordered the Mali international back to pre-season training in light of recent developments, having initially been given time off in order to sort out his future.

Orta shocker

Considering just how talented a holding midfielder Camara has proven himself to be at Salzburg, the argument that Orta has had something of a shocker in not pursuing a deal for the 22-year-old this summer is an easy one to make.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-more-2″ title=”Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Indeed, over his 25 Austrian Bundesliga appearances last season, the £24.3m-rated talent was in fantastic form, scoring one goal, registering three assists and creating three big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 0.9 shots, making 1.0 key pass and completing 1.8 dribbles per match.

The £2.9k-per-week midfielder also impressed in metrics more typical of his position, making an average of 1.3 interceptions, 1.9 tackles, 45.8 passes, 4.8 long balls and winning 6.4 duels – at a success rate of 61% – per game.

These returns saw the player who Jacek Kulig dubbed an “amazing signing” for a top Premier League side average a quite brilliant SofaScore match rating of 7.20, ranking him as the tenth-best player in the league in 2021/22.

Furthermore, the Malian also highly impressed over his eight appearances in last season’s Champions League, making an average of 2.1 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 40.3 passes, 3.6 long balls and winning 7.4 duels – at a success rate of 58% – per fixture, with these metrics seeing the former FC Liefering starlet average a SofaScore match rating of 6.94.

As such, with Leeds having lost the services of Kalvin Phillips this summer, it is clear to see that a player of Camara’s skill set would have made a fantastic addition to Jesse Marsch’s side ahead of the 2022/23 campaign – leading us to believe that Orta’s decision not to make a move for the Salzburg sensation is one that could easily come back to haunt him.

Tottenham: Eccleshare makes ‘exciting’ Richarlison claim

Tottenham Hotspur journalist Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic has now shared a ‘most exciting’ update involving the Lilywhites and Everton striker Richarlison.

The Lowdown: Spurs prepare…

Looking to build upon manager Antonio Conte’s top four finish in the Premier League last year, Spurs and transfer chief Fabio Paratici have taken to the summer market with real intent.

Having confirmed three major signings already, securing deals for Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma, the club are aiming to agree even more before Conte’s 2022/2023 pre-season begins.

Tottenham have apparently earmarked the possible additions of a right-wing-back, central defensive star and forward as priority next moves with Eccleshare now sharing what he knows on Richarlison.

The Latest: Eccleshare makes Richarlison claim…

The reliable journalist claims Tottenham and Paratici may well be in pole position to sign the Brazil international amid an ‘exciting’ update.

He explained, when commenting on the club’s summer deals (via Twitter):

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest updates” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

“The furthest along + most exciting is Richarlison: discussions are progressing + advanced. Spurs favourites despite other interest.”

The Verdict: Massive…

As per WhoScored, it’s seriously little surprise pundits like ex-Leeds United striker Noel Whelan have branded the 25-year-old one of Everton’s ‘big name’ players.

Indeed, the South American star racked up their most goals and shots at goal last season whilst finishing the 21/22 campaign as their best-performing player by average match rating.

Spurs being in pole position to sign Richarlison comes as yet another promising update after an already brilliant transfer window for supporters – and if reports are to be believed – yet more could follow.

Crystal Palace: Fabrizio Romano shares Levi Colwill news

Crystal Palace have enquired about Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwill, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The lowdown

The Eagles officially made their first signing of the summer over the weekend, landing 18-year-old winger Malcolm Ebiowei from Derby County. They have also reached an agreement with goalkeeper Sam Johnstone ahead of the expiry of his West Brom contract.

Colwill spent the 2021/22 season on loan with Huddersfield Town in the second tier and has now returned to Stamford Bridge.

The two London clubs did business last summer, with Conor Gallagher moving to Selhurst Park on loan at Marc Guehi joining permanently from Stamford Bridge.

The latest

Romano has said that Chelsea will make a ‘final decision’ on Colwill amid interest from ‘multiple clubs’.

The Blues are expected to sign two centre-backs this summer after losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Crystal Palace are one of four Premier League outfits who ‘have asked for Colwill’, along with Brighton, Leicester City and Nottingham Forest. Those clubs are thought to be pursuing ‘a permanent deal’ rather than a loan move for the 19-year-old.

The verdict

Palace have clearly been encouraged by the success of Guehi in his first season with the Eagles.

The youngster performed so well that he won The Athletic’s Rookie of the Year Award, scooping more than 25% of the vote, and Colwill also looks equipped to thrive in the top flight.

Even though he is only a teenager, he started 26 league games for a Terriers side which chased promotion and narrowly lost out to Forest in the Championship play-off final.

He won 66% of his ground duels – the second-best record in the division among under-21 defenders with at least five appearances – and 64% of his aerial battles.

Excitingly for Palace fans, he has been dubbed ‘the new John Terry’ – a fine endorsement considering the Chelsea legend’s standing in the game.

Rangers must secure Tyrhys Dolan transfer

Rangers currently have the fifth-oldest squad in the SPFL in terms of the average age (26.4) of their current crop of players.

In terms of their transfer business during the current summer window, one figure that the Gers have been linked with that could help bring the average age of the squad at Ibrox down is Blackburn Rovers winger Tyrhys Dolan.

Earlier this month, it was reported by Geoff Peters on Twitter that Rangers, as well as fellow SPFL side Celtic and Premier League club Nottingham Forest, are keen on signing the 20-year-old winger this summer for a possible fee of between £2m and £3m.

After spending time with Manchester City and Preston North End at youth level, the attacker joined Blackburn during the 2020 summer transfer window.

Since then, the youngster has gone on to make 76 senior appearances for the Lancashire club, in which he has scored eight goals and delivered six assists.

His latest season with the Championship club saw the Englishman find the net four times and provide three assists in 34 league appearances, whilst playing in a number of different positions across the pitch.

In fact, one of his goals was labelled as “wonderful” by Tony Mowbray back in October, highlighting the attacking talent he has for such a young player.

To further show what sort of player he is, on a list of similar players to the Blackburn starlet, according to Football Transfers, is former Real Madrid and Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.

With 113 goals and 219 assists to his name in 636 senior and youth appearances at club level, as well as winning numerous trophies for club and country, having a potential next version of the German in the shape of Dolan will be a mouth-watering prospect for Giovanni van Bronckhorst and the Gers.

Having also shown his versatility throughout his long and illustrious career in addition to scoring and creating goals on a very regular basis, it’s easy to see why the comparison has been made between the 33-year-old and the young Blackburn prodigy.

Moving forward, given the attacking prowess that he has shown throughout the latest campaign at his current club, if Rangers get the chance to secure a deal for him and give him the opportunity to develop his talent at Ibrox, this could be a big coup for the club and give them many long-term benefits.

Rangers eyeing Tyrhys Dolan

An update has emerged on Rangers and their attempts to bolster their squad at Ibrox in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

talkSPORT reporter Geoff Peters has revealed that Rangers are one of the clubs in the race to land a talent from south of the border in the market.

Ross Wilson is plotting a swoop for the English attacker and will need to pay up to £3m to bring him to Glasgow in the coming weeks.

Peters Tweeted: “Blackburn’s highly rated Tyrhys Dolan is attracting serious interest north and south of the border. Celtic and Rangers are both keen as are newly promoted Nottingham Forest. The England Under 20 striker has two years left on his #brfc contract. Fee could be around £2m-£3m.”

Ianis Hagi 2.0

By securing a deal to sign Dolan from Rovers, Wilson can land the new Ianis Hagi for the Light Blues in the sense that he is a talented, young, attacking midfielder who can be developed in the coming years

Like the Romanian, he is often deployed out wide on the right but is also capable of playing through the middle. This means that Gio van Bronckhorst can use him in a multitude of ways; playing on the right of a front three, as a number 10, as a striker in a 3-5-2, and in any other ways he can think of to utilise the gem’s talents.

In the 2021/22 campaign, Dolan managed four goals and three assists in 20 starts. This is a solid base for the 20-year-old to build from as he has plenty of room to add consistency to his end product, given that he is at the start of his career.

His former boss Tony Mowbray previously said he is “like a wasp” and lauded his attitude earlier this year, saying: “Tyrhys Dolan is a shining beacon for any kid who’s released from any football club. When he gets left out he works even harder on the training ground. He doesn’t sulk, he just gets to work on the grass.”

This shows that he will put the work in to improve and hone his skills to help him fulfil his potential. He will, therefore, be an investment for the future as he can develop over time and grow in influence on the pitch by scoring and assisting more goals.

The young talent has shown signs of promise in the Championship and can now explode with regular minutes in Scotland. Therefore, much like Hagi – 23 – is, Dolan would be a player van Bronckhorst can work with on the training pitch to turn him into a crucial player for the Gers.

Newcastle transfer news on Roger Fernandes

Journalist Jacque Talbot has revealed that a deal to take Roger Fernandes to Newcastle United may now be ‘going on’ behind the scenes.

The Lowdown: Rumours resurfaced

Rumours of the youngster potentially moving to St James’ Park resurfaced on Wednesday, after reports emerged last week.

The transfer window is seemingly heating up on Tyneside. With the Magpies having already secured the permanent signing of Matt Targett from Aston Villa, they remain in talks to sign both Sven Botman and Hugo Ekitike, and could well add to that duo as the summer progresses.

The Latest: Fernandes too?

Taking to Twitter, Talbot has revealed that a deal may now be ‘going on’ behind the scenes at Newcastle for Fernandes.

The journalist stated in that regard: “Did hear that there might be something going on.”

The Verdict: Exciting

These are certainly exciting times for the Toon Army, as  Newcastle could be pursuing up to three deals at once, which would make four summer signings in total after Targett if those all come off.

Fernandes is one which should get pulses racing. At just 15 years of age, he became the youngest player to feature in the Portuguese top flight; now 16, he has already scored three goals in 11 first-team matches for Braga (Transfermarkt).

The winger is already playing senior football at a high level, so it is scary to think how good he could become, especially if he starts to play his trade on Tyneside.

Man United edging closer to De Jong

Manchester United are edging closer to the signing of Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona according to the latest reports from Spain, and the Dutchman would be a sensational addition to Erik ten Hag’s side.

What’s the word?

According to Sport (via Sport Witness), ten Hag is ‘seducing’ the former Ajax man with his new Manchester United project and that the two parties are now ‘very close’ to a full agreement.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-man-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-more-nunez-ten-hag-nkunku-richarlison” title=”Read the latest Man United news!”]

They cite Barcelona’s financial woes as a key reason for the midfielder’s potential exit and claim that he is ready to pack his bags and move away from the Nou Camp this summer, with ten Hag keen to convince him to make the move to Old Trafford.

Magic for Ten Hag?

There is little doubt that United need reinforcements in midfield if they are to improve on their disappointing sixth-place finish from last season.

The effectiveness of a Fred and Scott McTominay double pivot has regularly been questioned, while ten Hag will also be without Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata after their contracts with the Red Devils came to an end.

De Jong was one of ten Hag’s key players in 2018/19, when the Eredivisie side reached the Champions League semi-final, as he made 11 appearances in the competition, averaging a superb 7.03 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

The Netherlands international is extremely adept with the ball, averaging an impressive 91.7% pass accuracy in La Liga last season, which was comfortably better than any of United’s regular starters.

Journalist Muhammad Butt waxed lyrical about the young midfielder after his switch to Barcelona, saying:

“Frenkie de Jong though… What an unreal player. He is absolute magic. He’s gone under the radar since signing for Barcelona but he is absolutely on a whole another level to every other young midfielder around. A pure genius.”

Previous reports have suggested that he would be available for £67m this summer and while that represents a significant outlay for United, they are desperate for some quality in midfield and ten Hag already knows how to get the best out of De Jong.

If he can replicate his form for Ajax in a United shirt, perhaps even re-establishing his connection with Donny van de Beek in United’s side, then he would surely be worth every penny.

And, in other news… Bye-Bye Maguire: Glazers must swoop for Spanish defender…

Manchester United linked with David Carmo

Manchester United have been linked with Braga centre-back David Carmo recently, and the Brazilian could form an excellent partnership with Raphael Varane under Erik ten Hag next season.

What’s the word?

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils have already held two rounds of talks with the 22-year-old defender and have him ready as a backup plan should their move for Ajax wonderkid Jurrien Timber fall through.

Considering that Dutch news outlet De Telegraaf have reported that the latter is now considering staying at Ajax in order to boost his World Cup chances due to the regular football on offer with the Eredivisie champions, Ten Hag may well end up turning to the Braga ace as he looks to bolster his defensive options at Old Trafford.

Imagine him and Varane

Ten Hag arrives at Old Trafford with a number of defensive options. However, given the disappointing form of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof in particular, with both averaging below a 6.7 rating across the 2021/22 season from WhoScored, the 52-year-old may well be looking for a more assured partner for Varane at the heart of a back-four.

Carmo has certainly caught the eye for Braga in recent years, recovering from a serious ankle injury to play a part in their Europa League run this season, while he also averaged a solid 6.75 rating from WhoScored for his performances in the Primeira Liga.

As a left-footed centre-back, he would also offer Ten Hag something new in the centre of United’s defence, as Maguire predominantly featured on the left-hand side of the back four in the 2021/22 season and was guilty of numerous errors which led to goals.

Braga manager Carlos Carvalhal was full of praise for Carmo after he made his return from injury last season, saying: “He is a fantastic centre back, one of the best in the country. He gives us a lot defensively, but offensively he is a super player, has speed on the ball, gives speed to our game and finds players near and far with long passes. We need a player like him and we will continue to operate with him in the team.”

With a more assured, left-footed option next to him in defence, Varane could be relied upon to produce the sort of performances which made him so successful at Real Madrid.

Therefore, Ten Hag and United must consider bringing Carmo to Old Trafford this summer.

Liverpool keen on signing Christian Pulisic

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic as a replacement for Sadio Mane this summer.

The Lowdown: Mane on the move?

It looks increasingly as though Mane could leave Anfield this summer, following six years at the club, in which time he has become a Reds legend.

The Senegalese superstar appears likely to join Bayern Munich, enjoying a new challenge while he remains at the peak of his powers.

The 30-year-old could leave a big gap in the Liverpool team, given his brilliance down the years, with a high-profile replacement surely needed to come in and fill the void.

The Latest: Reds linked with Pulisic move

According to The Daily Star, Liverpool are eyeing up a move for Pulisic as a ‘like for like’ Mane replacement, having been heavily linked with him before he joined Chelsea back in 2018.

Klopp was ‘close’ to a reunion with his former Borussia Dortmund student, and it is now claimed that the American could ‘jump ship’ and head to Anfield from Stamford Bridge, as he is ‘disgruntled’ at his current club.

[freshpress-quiz id=“398089″]

The Verdict: Exciting target

While Pulisic hasn’t necessarily set the world alight a Chelsea, he is an excellent young player who has huge potential, having been hailed as ‘world-class’ by BBC’s Pat Nevin in the past.

He possesses the pace and trickery to slot into Liverpool’s attack and his versatility means he is capable of thriving on either wing or even in a central role, so he could provide good competition in attacking areas.

Whether or not Chelsea are willing to sell Pulisic to a direct rival is unknown, however, which could act as a possible stumbling block.

Romano: Spurs closing in on "big signing"

Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on their first signing of the summer…

What’s the word?

According to Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Ivan Perisic is set to join Spurs on a two-year deal following the expiry of his contract at Serie A giants Inter Milan.

It’s thought that a medical is set to take place in north London next week, once everything has been signed. It’s also said that manager Antonio Conte wanted the 33-year-old as a priority signing for the Premier League outfit.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/tottenham-hotspur-latest-news-updates-transfer-rumours-gossip-spurs-thfc-conte-paratici” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, transfer rumours and more!”]

“Ivan Perisić’s set to join Tottenham, here we go! Full agreement set to be signed on a two-year deal. Inter have received final communication,” he tweeted.

“Medical could take place next week in London, once everything will be signed. Antonio Conte wanted Ivan as [a] priority.”

Big signing

On the face of it, signing a 33-year-old veteran is hardly an inspiring move. However, Perisic will add an abundance to the Lilywhites, who will be competing in next season’s Champions League after their top-four finish.

As football.london reporter Alasdair Gold put it perfectly, the Croatian star “would be a big signing” for Spurs. He’s won multiple titles – including the UCL – has bundles of experience and the exact mentality that the Italian head coach desires.

Despite his advancing years, Perisic contributed ten goals and nine assists across 49 appearances in all competitions, largely playing a left wing-back role, and that adds to his ten goal contributions on Inter’s way to the title in 2020/21, too.

Across the last three seasons alone, he’s picked up five trophies. Something that few, if any, in the current Spurs squad can match.

The 6 foot 1 dynamo, whose “physique is that of a horse” according to former manager Luciano Spalletti, is a very shrewd addition for Spurs and Conte indeed.

He’s certainly still got it, having also averaged the second-highest WhoScored rating in the Inter squad in the Serie A this campaign. He led the team for interceptions (1.3 per game) and was third for key passes per game (1.6), proving to be solid defensively and very much a creator in the final third.

Also lauded as a “physical monster” by Eurosport journalist Siavoush Fallahi, it’s evident that age is merely a number when it comes to the £125k-per-week brute.

As such, Perisic could indeed be a big signing for Tottenham heading into next season. He and Heung-min Son down the left flank is certainly an intriguing prospect indeed.

The Lilywhites faithful, and the manager, must be absolutely buzzing by Romano’s latest update.
