Charlie Patino: Arsenal’s new Aaron Ramsey

Arsenal may have found their next Aaron Ramsey in youngster Charlie Patino.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder, who is capable of “mazy” runs with the ball, as per The Athletic writer Art de Roche, has impressed for the Gunners’ academy sides and could be set for a first-team breakthrough under Mikel Arteta.

Comfortable operating anywhere along the spine of the team, the teenager bears similarities to Ramsey, who was eased into the first-team during the 2008/09 season. Arsenal will be hoping that Patino can have a similar impact and go on to become a key player for the club over time.

Arteta has shown a willingness to give youth a chance, as evidenced by the frequent inclusions of Emile Smith Rowe, Gabriel Martinelli and more recently Eddie Nketiah in his line-ups.

Also, with the Gunners lacking depth across the engine room, amidst links to Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans, Arteta may have an in-house option in Patino from the Hale End production line.

The 18-year-old is clearly on the cusp of first-team action, having been eased in as early as December against Sunderland in the Carabao Cup. In his ten-minute cameo that night, the England under-19 starlet 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Whilst his integration into the first-team has been gradual, it is surely only a matter of time before we see Patino handed his debut in the Premier League.

In 15 appearances for the under-23s this season, the 18-year-old has demonstrated an ability to score and set up goals, having notched one assist in Premier League 2, although his game seems to be much more well-rounded.

It is worth noting that six of those appearances have been from a central midfield position, while three have been as a defensive midfielder.

At this moment, it is difficult to accurately quantify the 18-year-old’s potential based on the lack of availability regarding in-depth statistics, but having featured twice for the senior team this season and demonstrating versatility within his game, it is surely only a matter of time before we see more of the Arsenal youngster, who could be a new version of Ramsey at the Emirates Stadium.

Newcastle: Eddie Howe reveals double blow

Eddie Howe has dropped a big injury update on Newcastle United duo Joe Willock and Jonjo Shelvey…

What’s the latest?

The Magpies head coach has explained why both players were left out of the matchday squad for the club’s 5-0 defeat to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Sunday.

Journalist Chris Waugh Tweeted: “Eddie Howe confirms that midfielders Joe Willock (a knee problem) & Jonjo Shelvey (a calf issues) are unlikely to feature in either of NUFC’s final two matches of the season. Both missed the 5-0 defeat to MCFC.”

Supporters will be gutted

The Toon supporters will surely be gutted by this big injury setback as it is a major blow to the club’s hopes of a top-half finish in the Premier League.

Newcastle are one point behind tenth-placed Brighton and have the opportunity to end the campaign in the top ten as they face Arsenal and Burnley in their last two matches.

However, they will need to cope without Willock and Shelvey and this will frustrate the fans as both players have been regulars in the midfield this season. The former has played 29 league matches and this shows that Howe trusts him to perform in the middle of the park, whilst the head coach was let down by his replacement – Sean Longstaff – against Man City.

Shelvey, meanwhile, has been excellent in the top-flight. He has averaged a superb SofaScore rating of 6.93 across 24 appearances as he has chipped in with two goals and one assist. The former Liverpool man has used his sublime range of passing to great effect throughout the campaign as he has completed 4.9 long passes per game, opening up the pitch and sending the likes of Ryan Fraser and Allan Saint-Maximin into space in wide areas.

Only four players have averaged a higher rating than the Englishman for Newcastle and three of them – Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn – joined the club in the January transfer window.

These statistics illustrate why losing Shelvey is a major blow for the Magpies as they will now be without one of their best players for the remainder of the season. He has shown that he can perform to a high level on a consistent basis and that is why his injury is a tough one to take for the supporters.

Therefore, fans will be gutted by Howe’s update and will be hoping that both players are able to recover in time to be fit for pre-season later this year.

Rangers player ratings vs RB Leipzig

Glasgow Rangers fell to a 1-0 loss in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League tie on Thursday night, thanks to a late goal from Angelino.

It was not the most flattering of performances from the visitors, who gave up most of the ball and recorded just one shot on target in the whole game (SofaScore).

As such, The Transfer Tavern use statistical experts SofaScore to analyse who the three worst performers (to have played ay least 45 minutes) were on the night, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst likely now to be considering their places in the XI ahead of the Old Firm and next week’s second leg…

Scott Wright

Admittedly joint with some others in terms of overall rating (6.6), Wright ranks in third-last here as he did not play the full 90 minutes.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/rangers-news-4/” title=”Rangers news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Scotsman recorded no shots on target, interceptions, key passes, crosses or long balls, and was guilty of losing possession on no fewer than 15 separate occasions.

Former Ibrox striker Steven Thompson accused him of being ‘quiet’, as he was the only Gers starter to record fewer touches than goalkeeper Allan McGregor, highlighting how largely anonymous he was.

Connor Goldson

Goldson was also given a 6.6 rating, in what was not the best night individually for the central defender.

He lost out on three of his duels in total, and also made no interceptions or tackles, losing possession 13 times and receiving a needless yellow card deep into injury time.

John Lundstram

With a 6.1 rating, Lundstram ranked as the Teddy Bears’ worst player on the night.

The former Sheffield United ace lost three duels playing in a centre-back role, while he also made no interceptions, and was dribbled past a team-high three times.

In possession, Lundstram lost the ball 14 times, the fifth-most out of any of his teammates.

Fosun ready to back Edwards as Wolves look to sign £150k-p/w Man City star

Wolverhampton Wanderers are looking at signing a Manchester City player in the January transfer window, it has been revealed.

Edwards calls Wolves return a “dream”

Rob Edwards’ return to Molineux as Wolves manager was sealed during the international break, with the 42-year-old costing around £3m in compensation from Championship side Middlesbrough.

The former Old Gold defender, coach and interim head coach has signed a deal in the Midlands until 2029 and is now preparing his side for a Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Talking to Wolves’ official media, Edwards revealed that a return is a “dream” and that he is “ready” to try and take the club off the bottom of the table.

“It means a lot. This club’s really special. It’s special anyway, but it’s special to me because it’s where I’ve spent most of my professional career and where I played most of my football.

“Then to have done a lot of the roles that I’ve done, I’ve got to be honest, this job was always my aim. This is the dream.

“I know the situation that we’re in right now, but this is just something that I’ve always wanted, and I’m ready for it. I’m ready for the challenge, I’m up for it, and it’s been great getting around everybody, seeing so many faces that I know, and new faces as well.

“The staff are all up for it and we’ll meet the players next week when everyone arrives back, and I know the lads will be as well.”

To help Wolves try and avoid the drop, Fosun are ready to back Edwards in the January transfer window with the necessary funds to make new signings.

Now, another transfer target has emerged for those in the Midlands.

Wolves looking to sign Kalvin Phillips from Man City

According to Football Insider, Wolves have set their sights on signing Man City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

It is claimed that Wolves ‘will explore both loan and permanent deals’, with Edwards ‘eager to add some top-flight nous to his ranks’.

Phillips, on £150,000-a-week at the Etihad Stadium, looks set to leave Pep Guardiola’s side in the New Year after failing to get a move away in the summer.

He has been called a “monster” in the past and has the experience of a relegation battle with Leeds United, avoiding the drop with the Whites in the 2021/22 season before earning his move to Manchester.

However, nearly four years on, the England international could be set for a permanent return to a side battling at the bottom, rivalling the likes of Andre, Joao Gomes, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Marshall Munetsi for a starting role in Edwards’ side.

Wolves offer for "world-class" Real Madrid player, want deal done quickly

Could be another Eddie Howe: "Magnificent" coach now wants the Celtic job

It was just under nine months ago that Scottish champions Celtic were pushing Bayern Munich close in the Champions League play-off round, with a fluid, fearsome forward line of Daizen Maeda, Nicolas Kuhn and Jota causing all sorts of problems at the Allianz Arena.

To witness the extent of the drop off since then is quite remarkable, a fact most recently exposed during Thursday’s dismal defeat away to FC Midtjylland, with Martin O’Neill’s side looking simply inferior to their Danish hosts.

From the highs of that night in Munich, the Hoops have since sunk to notable lows against the likes of Kairat and in midweek, with the recent Europa League outing seeing O’Neill deploy a forward line of Johnny Kenny, James Forrest and Sebastian Tounekti.

Injury has no doubt been a factor in that decline, although so too has recruitment, with the transfer business having been simply erratic at Parkhead following Brendan Rodgers’ return in the summer of 2023.

With January on the horizon, the Glasgow giants face a pivotal month in the market to try and arrest this ongoing decline, albeit with the first port of call settling on who will be the man at the helm by the time that winter window comes around.

Latest on Celtic's manager search

The abrupt nature of Rodgers’ shock resignation has no doubt put the Celtic hierarchy on the back foot, with it unlikely to be a smooth process trying to appoint a permanent solution mid-season.

That fact led to the decision to parachute in O’Neill – and Shaun Maloney – for this recent quartet of games, although the midweek trip to Denmark highlighted the need to make a decision, one way or another, on Rodgers’ long-term successor.

There remain suggestions that O’Neill and Maloney could stay put until the end of the campaign, although the wisdom in that decision remains to be seen, with the previous move to bring Neil Lennon back to the club having ultimately ended in disappointment.

Manager Focus

Who are the greatest coaches in the land? Football FanCast’s Manager Focus series aims to reveal all.

A fresh start and a fresh face, it would seem, is in order, with the standout name write now appearing to be that of Bodo/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen, amid recent reports regarding the 57-year-old’s interest in the vacancy.

Indeed, as per transfer insider Graeme Bailey, the Norwegian coach would be interested in taking over at Parkhead, albeit with the major caveat being that he wishes to see out his current side’s Champions League campaign.

With the new Swiss format ensuring that fixtures stretch into January and potentially even February, should the Eliteserien outfit secure a place in the play-offs, that would require a lengthy wait for Knutsen to eventually arrive.

Of course, having a sense of patience could be wise if he is deemed to be the perfect candidate, although amid their current slump, the Hoops don’t appear to have the time to wait around.

Why Celtic could be facing an Eddie Howe repeat

The summer of 2021 remains a real Sliding Doors moment for those at Celtic, with the club in the midst of a pivotal period having witnessed rivals Rangers wrestle back the title under Steven Gerrard, resulting in Lennon’s second departure from Parkhead.

As early as March and April 2021, reports emerged that the Premiership side had settled on a successor in the form of ex-Bournemouth boss, Eddie Howe, with the Englishman deemed to be the clear favourite for the role.

Advanced talks had taken place, although after something of a three-month back and forth, it was confirmed that Howe would not be the next man in the dugout, with the current Newcastle United boss later admitting that issues over bringing his backroom staff with him were a key factor in that eventual snub.

Fortunately, having put all their eggs in Howe’s basket, Celtic’s backup option proved to be something of a hidden gem, with Ange Postecoglou swiftly quashing the doubters by winning five domestic trophies over the next two seasons, while implementing a glorious brand of attacking football.

Would the club have such luck again, if they could not get their preferred target this time around, however?

There does appear to be shades of the Howe about this Knutsen interest, with the Scandinavian coach having long been linked with the post, stretching back to the summer of 2023, prior to Rodgers’ return.

Much like Howe at Bournemouth – where he guided the Cherries from the fourth tier into the Premier League – Knutsen has done a fabulous job at his current side, notably steering Bodo/Glimt into the semi-finals of the Europa League last term, prior to securing Champions League qualification this time around.

With four league titles under his belt for the Arctic Circle side, he has undoubtedly done a “magnificent” job over the past few years – in the words of former Bodo/Glimt sporting director, Aasmund Bjorkan – although Celtic can’t afford to be strung along as they seemingly were with Howe.

If Knutsen does demand to see out his continental run this season, then the Hoops may well need to seek out an alternative option, rather than enduring another period of uncertainty over the next few months.

With the upcoming international break providing the perfect time to finally nail down a permanent replacement for Rodgers, Celtic can’t be dictated to again, as they were with Howe.

Even in their current state, the former European champions are a historic and attractive destination. Celtic waits for no one.

Celtic now set to sign £6m star who Jurgen Klopp said is "unbelievable"

Setting their sights on January additions, Celtic are now reportedly set to sign a midfield star who Jurgen Klopp once described as “unbelievable”.

Celtic must solve goalscoring problem

By Celtic’s standards, it’s been a frustrating season so far. The Bhoys sit two points behind shock leaders Hearts in the Scottish Premiership and have struggled to get going in the Europa League. Whilst they’ve been solid defensively, their frontline has struggled without Nicolas Kuhn and without Daizen Maeda at his very best.

Something must change after the international break if those at Celtic Park want to avoid handing Hearts an even greater advantage in what is proving to be an unexpected title race.

Kelechi Iheanacho’s form at the start of his Celtic career has at least provided Rodgers with one boost, but he still needs Maeda to find his form when the Bhoys return to action this weekend.

Of course, there is also a chance that the Japan international leaves when the January transfer window swings open. He has already attracted reported interest from the Premier League and will have just one year left on his current deal when next summer arrives.

Celtic dud who should be in "bottom end of League One" is on borrowed time

ByDan Emery Oct 16, 2025

If that does prove to be the case, then Celtic will need to find an instant replacement for another key man. Whether they have the funds to do that in January is the big question, especially amid rumours that they’re already preparing to splash the cash on another upgrade.

Celtic set to sign Bobby Clark

According to The Times, Celtic are now set to sign Bobby Clark from Red Bull Salzburg in a January deal worth as much as £6m. The attacking midfielder is currently on loan at Derby County and is now expected to seal a permanent exit away from Salzburg courtesy of the Bhoys this winter.

At just 20 years old, Clark is still a player full of potential even if things haven’t worked out in Austria. Klopp knew the gem that he had on his hands during his time at Anfield and Rodgers could now get the best out of him when January arrives.

The former Liverpool boss praised both Clark and fellow youngster Stefan Bajcetic in 2023 after opportunities emerged for both, saying: “Obviously, we have a squad where everybody is needed. We are not like 25, 26 [key] players. But on the other side, it opens up opportunities, and I’m really, really happy with the boys Stefan [Bajcetic] and Bobby [Clark].”

“I’m not sure whether they would be that close to the first team already at 17 years old if we would have them all [the whole squad] available, and then now they make real steps. It’s unbelievable, every day in training. So that’s good. But of course, you would prefer to have an extra striker, an extra midfielder.”

Better signing than Stach: Leeds contenders to sign "remarkable" £17m star

Leeds United officially confirmed the signing of German central midfielder Anton Stach from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim as their latest arrival on Tuesday.

The 6 foot 4 enforcer becomes the club’s sixth signing of the summer transfer window after Sean Longstaff, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Jaka Bijol, Lukas Nmecha, and Sebastiaan Bornauw.

Stach, 26, made 3.7 tackles and interceptions per game across 30 outings in the Bundesliga last season, but has joined to compete in a bloated midfield set-up, with Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev, Ao Tanaka, and Longstaff also at the club.

This means that he has not arrived as an essential signing, albeit he may well go on to be a huge success, and that is why the club’s interest in a new goalkeeper could be an even better signing.

Leeds in the race to sign new goalkeeper

It is no secret that Leeds need to improve their options between the sticks, after Illan Meslier was dropped towards the end of last season after he conceded 2.73 more goals than expected, based on xG, and made three errors that directly led to goals.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

According to Het Laatste Nieuws, as relayed by TEAMtalk, Leeds United are eyeing up a potential swoop to sign goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp this summer.

The report claims that the Championship champions have emerged as serious contenders to sign the 23-year-old shot-stopper to bolster Daniel Farke’s squad for next season.

Senne Lammens for Royal Antwerp.

However, it adds that Manchester United are also interested in the Belgian star, who is valued at a fee of up to £17m by his club, which means that there could be significant competition for his signature.

Why Senne Lammens would be a big signing for Leeds

Lammens would be an even better signing than Stach for Leeds because he would arrive as a huge upgrade in a position that the club are currently desperately lacking in quality.

The latest Whites signing is part of a healthy group of quality midfield options, which means that he is not guaranteed to be a regular starter, but the Belgian goalkeeper would come straight in as Farke’s best goalkeeper.

Lammens, who saved four of the eight penalties he faced in the Pro League last season, produced outstanding performances for Royal Antwerp in the 2024/25 campaign, and could be a phenomenal signing for the club.

As you can see in the table above, the Belgian goalkeeper would come in as an unbelievable upgrade on Meslier if he can carry his form over to English football, as he prevented a ridiculous 15.57 goals based on the xG against him.

These statistics suggest that Lammens, whose shot-stopping numbers were hailed as “remarkable” by Statman Dave, would be a huge positive between the sticks for Leeds, as a goalkeeper who can make game-changing saves to keep his team in matches.

Whereas, Meslier has let Leeds down too many times with his inconsistent shot-stopping, which has led to him conceding more than the average goalkeeper would be expected to based on the quality of shots against him.

Therefore, Lammens would be a huge upgrade on what the Whites currently have in goal, and he would arrive as a crucial signing for Farke ahead of their attempt to avoid an instant relegation from the Premier League.

He'll send Harrison packing: Leeds chase deal to sign "explosive" £30m star

Leeds United remain interested in a deal to sign a star who could send Jack Harrison packing this summer.

1 ByDan Emery Jul 22, 2025

That is why the Royal Antwerp stopper would be an even better signing than Stach for the Whites this summer, because he would solve a problem position for the club, whilst the midfielder is competing in an area of the pitch that Farke has plenty of quality in.

Biggest deal since Ronaldo: Wilcox plotting Man Utd move for £70m striker

Back in the summer of 2021, Manchester United thought they had landed themselves one of the deals of the transfer window, re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo 12 years after he left for Real Madrid.

The Portuguese international looked set for a move to join Manchester City, before the Red Devils hijacked that deal and secured a fairytale return to Old Trafford.

He would feature 54 times in his second stint, scoring 27 times, before a major bust-up with Erik ten Hag would see him depart for his current side, Al Nassr, in November 2022.

However, despite his off-the-field issues, it was a huge move that boosted the club’s finances and brought added excitement around the ground – especially after finishing second in the Premier League the season prior to his arrival.

Fast-forward to the present day, a similar move could well be completed, with Ruben Amorim’s side looking to pounce and take advantage of a potential transfer this summer.

The latest on United’s hunt for new additions this summer

Dušan Vlahović is a player who could be a cheap option for United and director of football Jason Wilcox this summer, with current side, Juventus, potentially offloading him for just £15m during the off-season.

The Red Devils have been in constant talks with the Italian outfit over a move for the Serbian international, potentially seeing Jadon Sancho moving in the opposite direction.

Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic

However, attention may have been turned to another target, with Sporting CP talisman Viktor Gyokeres appearing on their radar once again, according to A Bola’s latest update.

Whilst the Swede has looked certain to move to Arsenal this window, the report claims a deal has stalled in recent days with the Gunners reluctant to meet Sporting’s valuation of the player.

As a result, the Red Devils are on red alert and are looking to pounce on the situation, potentially handing the forward a lifeline as he seeks an escape route out of Lisbon.

It also states that the Portuguese outfit are holding out for a fee in the region of £70m, including add-ons, to sell the 27-year-old during the current transfer window.

Why United’s latest target would be the biggest deal since Ronaldo

Since Ronaldo’s second spell at United, the hierarchy have splashed the cash to try and land players who could thrive at the club within the final third.

Rasmus Hojlund

Rasmus Hojlund is just one player who’s tried to fill the void in recent seasons, but the Dane has fallen way below the expectations of a signing who cost £72m.

The 22-year-old has only registered 26 goals in his first two full seasons at Old Trafford, leading to rumours around his own long-term future at the club under Amorim.

Joshua Zirkzee is another striker who’s failed to impress, notching just seven goals last season, after joining from Italian side Bologna nearly 12 months ago.

However, when comparing the pair’s respective stats to those of Gyokeres from the 2024/25 campaign, the Swede has massively blown them out the water – highlighting why he’d be the best signing since Ronaldo in such a department.

Sporting CP's ViktorGyokereskisses the trophy as he celebrate after winning the Taca de Portugal

Gyokeres, who’s been labelled “phenomenal” by commentator Ian Darke, massively outscored the pair and posted a better goal per shot on target rate – showcasing the clinical edge he possesses in the final third.

He also managed to complete more take-ons that he attempted, along with more carries into the opposition’s box per 90, having the ability to create an opportunity for himself out of nothing.

The Swede’s creativity is also demonstrated by his tally of 1.9 key passes per 90, along with 50% aerials won – handing Amorim’s side that focal point to play off, something they’ve massively been lacking in recent months.

It’s unclear as to how much of an opportunity they have to hijack the move for the forward, but it’s hugely evident that he would be the best option at the manager’s disposal.

If he could replicate the levels produced by Ronaldo at Old Trafford, it would be a phenomenal piece of business and one that could catapult them up the table next campaign.

Having beaten off Man City to secure the huge coup of sealing Ronaldo’s homecoming, managing to get ahead of the Gunners in the race for Gyokeres would be a similar seismic, statement deal for Wilcox and the new regime.

A bigger talent than Delap: Chelsea "getting closer" to signing £55m phenom

It’s been a jam-packed summer for Chelsea so far this year.

On top of making it through to the knockout rounds of the Club World Cup, the Blues have already been very active in the transfer window.

Enzo Maresca’s side have bought in a number of young talents to bolster the squad ahead of their return to the Champions League next season, with perhaps the most exciting so far being Liam Delap.

However, in exciting news, the club appear close to securing the services of another young star who could be an even bigger talent than the former Ipswich Town star.

Chelsea target young talents

So far this summer, Chelsea seem to be continuing their habit of targeting young, up-and-coming talents, with names like Nico Williams and Alejandro Garnacho linked with them over the last few weeks.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

However, with the former now looking set to join Barcelona and the latter not exactly the most popular candidate, thanks to how things appear to have ended at Manchester United, the Blues have also looked at a host of other youngsters.

Fortunately, the West Londoners now appear to be closing in on one of those prospects, someone who’s arguably a bigger talent than Delap: Jamie Gittens.

Yes, according to a recent report from transfers expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are still pursuing the Borussia Dortmund star.

In fact, the Italian journalist has revealed that an “agreement is getting closer” as the two sides continue their talks over the player in the US.

Jamie Gittens

A price is not mentioned in the update, but according to other reports from this week, it looks increasingly likely that the Englishman will cost around £55m.

It might be a lot of money for a 20-year-old, but based on his ability and potential, it could be worth it, especially as he might be a bigger talent than Delap.

How Gittens compares to Delap

So, the first thing to say is that both youngsters look destined for brilliant careers at the very top of the game, but if we had to come down on who we think is just about the bigger talent, it would be Gittens, and there are a few reasons why.

The first is that, while the former Ipswich Town gem was honing his skills in the Championship last season, the Dortmund prospect was making a name for himself in the Bundesliga and even made seven appearances in the Champions League, despite being just 19 years old.

Moreover, this season, when both players were competing in one of Europe’s top five leagues alongside other competitions, the 20-year-old prospect was, in fact, more effective for the German outfit than the 22-year-old was for the Tractor Boys.

Jamie Gittens

For example, the “explosive” Reading-born winger, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, scored 12 goals and provided five assists in 49 appearances, totalling 2,803 minutes, which comes out to an average of a goal or assist every 164.88 minutes.

In contrast, the Winchester-born poacher scored 12 goals and provided two assists in 40 appearances, totalling 2,670 minutes, for the Suffolk side this year, which comes out to a goal involvement every 190.71 minutes.

Finally, when we examine their underlying numbers, it becomes impossible to ignore just how much better the talented winger fares than his potential new teammate.

For example, not only does he do better in the most critical attacking metrics, like non-penalty goals plus assists and key passes, but also tackles, blocks and interceptions, so he can be trusted to contribute to the dirty work while also impacting play at the sharp end of the pitch.

Leeds and Burnley battle for free agent signing of "immense" Premier League defender

Leeds United now face Burnley in a transfer battle to sign a Premier League level defender on a free transfer this summer, according to a new report.

Leeds eyeing more transfers after Nmecha deal

The Whites confirmed their first signing of the summer transfer window on Sunday afternoon, as Lukas Nmecha agreed to join Leeds once his contract at Wolfsburg expires at the end of the month.

The attacking midfielder is a player who is likely to be an important figure in Farke’s team this season, but the club are not resting with just his arrival, as they are already working on more additions.

As reported by Africa Foot, Leeds have made contact with Manchester City over signing Juma Bah on a loan deal. The 19-year-old joined the Blues back in January but spent the rest of the campaign on loan at RC Lens. He now looks set for another temporary move away, with Leeds and Southampton fighting for his signature.

Meanwhile, defender Jaka Bijol has agreed terms over a move to Elland Road this summer and a deal appears to be nearing completion. He is not the only defender on the club’s radar, as a report from Football Insider states that Alex Moreno is also interested in a move to Leeds this summer. The 32-year-old could be available for £5 million, as the Whites are in the market for a new left-back.

Leeds face Burnley in Keane battle

The list of potential new defenders to sign doesn’t stop there, as according to the Liverpool Echo, Leeds are among the teams interested in signing Michael Keane from Everton.

Everton defender Michael Keane

Keane, who has been at Goodison Park since July 2017, is out of contract at the end of this month, and while he remains in talks over a new contract, he is looking more likely to leave. That has alerted Leeds, who, along with Burnley and Sheffield United, are keen on swooping in and securing the defender on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old, who has been dubbed “immense” in the past by Harry Redknapp, has fallen down the pecking order at Everton in recent seasons. Keane went from playing 32 games in the Premier League during the 2021/22 season to playing just 12, 9 and 14 times in the last 3 campaigns.

Keane could be a viable option for the Whites to provide more depth behind Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk, and there aren’t many free signings on the market who provide such a wealth of top flight experience.
