The Philadelphia Phillies landed arguably the biggest bullpen prize available at the 2025 MLB trade deadline.

On Wednesday afternoon, Philadelphia is finalizing a trade to land Minnesota Twins closer Jhoan Duran in what will prove to be a major upgrade to the team's bullpen. ESPN's Jeff Passan had the report.

The 27-year-old righty, who’s ranked No. 4 on Sports Illustrated’s list of trade candidates, is 6–4 with a 2.01 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 53 strikeouts in 49 1/3 innings this season. He has 16 saves in 18 chances, and will be under team control through the 2027 season.

Phillies relievers currently rank 23rd in baseball with an ERA of 4.33, and their closer-by-committee approach has produced mixed results at best. That shouldn't be a problem moving forward.

In exchange for Duran, the Twins will be acquiring two prospects, Eduardo Tait and Mick Abel. Tait is the No. 4 prospect in Philly's system according to MLB Pipeline, and is an 18-year-old catcher who is already in High-A ball and has promising power. Abel, a 23-year-old right-handed starter, was the No. 15 pick in the 2020 MLB draft. He made his big league debut this season and in six starts is 2-2 with a 5.04 ERA, and a 1.36 WHIP.

Kylian Mbappe is being backed to break Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of most goals for Real Madrid in a calendar year, but the French superstar has been told that “nobody will surpass” CR7 in the Santiago Bernabeu GOAT stakes. Mbappe is enjoying a prolific season for Los Blancos and could claim another entry in the history books before 2025 comes to a close.

Mbappe in Madrid: Goal numbers for French forward

The World Cup winner moved to the Spanish capital from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024, having become a free agent when his contract at Parc des Princes expired. A productive debut campaign in Madrid delivered 44 goals across all competitions.

Mbappe has found the target on 25 occasions through 20 appearances this term, with the No.10 shirt now being filled having initially taken on the No.9 jersey that Ronaldo occupied when making his own move to the Bernabeu.

Portuguese icon Ronaldo hit 59 goals for Real in 2013, with Mbappe currently four efforts short of matching that achievement. Quizzed on whether the France international will raise that bar and snatch a record away from CR7, Blancos legend Guti told : “It's going to happen, no matter what. We're seeing an incredible version of Mbappe. He's above the team's level. Thanks to him, they win matches, and that makes him a leader within the team. Kylian must continue on this path to bring more players along and see Real Madrid become champions.”

Pressed on whether Mbappe could one day eclipse the achievements of Real’s all-time leading scorer Ronaldo, Guti added: “No one will ever surpass Cristiano. He's a player who has defined an era at Real Madrid and in football because of his consistency. That's the most important thing for any player who wants to dethrone Cristiano and [Lionel] Messi, whom I consider to be on the same level. It's no use having 10 good games and then not showing up when it matters. Those two always delivered. That's the challenge facing Mbappe, Lamine [Yamal], or anyone else who wants to get close to them.”

Real are considered to have become over-reliant on Mbappe this season, with collective standards dipping if he has an off day. Guti admits that is cause for concern, with the ex-Spain international saying: “It shouldn't be like this. Real Madrid has some fantastic players: Vinicius, Bellingham… They can and should score a lot of goals. It's true they contribute to the team's play, but Real Madrid shouldn't rely solely on Mbappe's goals.”

Bellingham boost: England star backed to come good

England international Jude Bellingham has endured a tough time this season, following his recovery from summer shoulder surgery. He has recorded just four goals, with the 22-year-old seeing his position tweaked slightly by new Los Blancos boss Xabi Alonso.

Guti expects the all-action midfielder to come good, saying of the man who has also faced questions internationally with the Three Lions: “We have to give him time; he's a fantastic player. He proved it in his first year. When he's been at 100%, he's been outstanding. I think he'll get back to that level. At Real Madrid, we'd like him back right away, but when you come back from an injury, it's always difficult.”

Bellingham and Mbappe were left helpless in Real Madrid’s latest outing, as they suffered a shock 2-0 defeat at home to Celta Vigo. Los Blancos’ collective cause was done few favours by red cards picked up by Fran Garcia and Alvaro Carreras, with Alonso’s side finishing the contest with nine men.

وشهدت ركلة الجزاء اعتراضات قوية من جانب لاعبي الأهلي حيث ارتطمت الكرة في يد أليو ديانج والتي كانت في وضعها الطبيعي.

Thomas Tuchel dished out another warning to an England defender over his conduct on the pitch. Tuchel has been very particular with the on and off-field behaviour of the players who represent the Three Lions and the former Chelsea manager is in no mood to compromise when it comes to discipline. Tuchel recently oversaw England's historic World Cup qualifying campaign, where they won all eight of their matches.

  Following a terrible performance against Chelsea earlier this month, which produced just one shot on target, the home supporters made their feelings clear as boos rang around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following the conclusion of the match. Despite the jeering, as is customary, Spurs boss Frank went onto the pitch as he and the rest of the players planned to show their appreciation for their fans' support during the game. 

  However, later in a video which was widely shared across social media, Spurs duo Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence opted to leave the pitch instead of greeting supporters, to the anger of head coach Frank. 

  The Spurs, though, later downplayed the incident as he told reporters: "All the players are, of course, frustrated. They would like to do well, they would like to win, they would like to perform. I understand that. I think it’s difficult to be consistent in good times and bad times, that’s why I went around to the fans as I did, it’s more fun when we win, I can tell you that. I understand why you ask the question. But I think that’s one of, how you can say, small issues. We have Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence doing everything they can. They’ve performed very well so far this season. Everyone is frustrated. We do things in a different way, I don’t think it’s a big problem."

  Spence warned by Tuchel

  Following the misconduct on the pitch for his club, England boss Tuchel has now spoken to the defender and warned against repeating such behaviour. The German coach later told reporters, "I didn’t like it. Because the players know they are not only national players when they are ten days in camp. They are always national players, and the standard of behaviour is always important."

• Tuchel slammed Bellingham earlier

  During England's World Cup qualifier against Albania on Sunday, Jude Bellingham finally got a chance to shine as he displayed an impressive performance. However, he was disappointed at being substituted in the 84th minute and was later accused of not "embracing the collective"

  On Bellingham's behaviour, Tuchel later said: "That is a bad impression. It should be about the collective. What we did in camp is all about the collective. I have to then review it – I was happy about the goal. I had a quick talk with Morgan Rogers and I was sure that everyone celebrated together. I will have a look at it. That is not the image we want to transport. We feel everyone is committed and that everyone accepts tough decisions, be it before the match or in the match.

  "He [Bellingham] has to accept it, he has to accept it. We should not make more out of it than it is. Rogers was not happy when he couldn't start today because he deserves to play, and he wants to play all the time. We gave him a bit of a rest because he came with a lot of minutes playing at club [level] and played for us against Serbia. I also don't want to make more out of it. I stick to my words – behaviour is key. Decisions are made, and you have to accept it as a player."

  England's historic World Cup qualifying journey

  England scripted history as they became the first team to win all of their eight World Cup qualifying matches without conceding a single goal, as they scored 22 times in this period. In their latest win over Albania, courtesy of a brace from Harry Kane, the Bayern Munich star took his international goals tally to 78 as he surpassed Brazil icon Pele in the list of all-time highest goalscorers in the international arena.

Harry Kane is being backed to emulate the longevity of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi by playing on close to his 40s. Former Tottenham forward Fraizer Campbell, in an exclusive interview with GOAL, has explained why the Bayern Munich striker can play “for a good while longer” as he has shown no sign of slowing down on domestic and international fronts.

• Record breaker: Kane starring for club & country

  Kane is the all-time leading scorer for Spurs and England. He found the target on 280 occasions for the north London heavyweights and has taken his historic tally for the Three Lions to 76 and counting – while earning 110 caps.

  He appears destined to break Peter Shilton’s record of 125 appearances for England, with another tilt at World Cup glory set to be taken in next summer. It has been suggested that Kane could go on to earn GOAT status with the Three Lions – as he overtakes the likes of Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton, David Beckham and Wayne Rooney.

  How long can Kane play on for? No signs of slowing down

  Campbell can see Kane playing on for several more seasons, with 108 goals being recorded for Bayern through 113 games. He has become a Bundesliga title winner there and is hungry for more tangible success.

  With his obvious qualities still holding up against the best in the business, Campbell – speaking with GOAL via Stake, where you can get Bundesliga picks and predictions – said when asked if Kane can emulate evergreen GOATs Messi and Ronaldo: “I think so. As long as your body allows you, it’s not picking up too many injuries. He never had blistering pace so he is more of a technical finisher. I think he could play for a good while longer. And he still knows where the net is, he’s still scoring, it’s not like he is slowing down. He could continue going on for a long time.”

  Ex-England striker Emile Heskey has previously told GOAL when asked how long Kane could go on for: “I played until I was 32. You can see him going past that. You are looking at Ronaldo, changing the way that he plays, and he’s 39. That is similar to what Harry kind of does. [Alan] Shearer was another, even though you get older, even though there is a change of pace, a change of mobility, he will still score you goals. That’s the key thing. I can see him playing for the national team until 36, depending on the manager. And depending on who is behind you.”

  The man himself has told ESPN of being inspired by Messi and CR7: “I think of what they've done, they are as good in their 30s as they were in their 20s. It obviously gives me excitement to know if I keep my body in good shape and keep my mentality right, I could be playing at the highest level for as long as I want to do it. Those players [Ronaldo and Messi] have set the bar – those and a few others as well – and it just motivates me and tells me that it's possible. It is great watching those players still performing, two of the greatest players ever to play our game. For me now, it is almost the second half of my career. I've had a good first half; now, can the second half be even better?”

  Another transfer at £57m: What next for Kane?

  The big question now is: where will Kane be playing his club football in the short and medium-term future? There are exit clauses in his contract at Bayern that can be triggered at around £57 million ($75m) in 2026.

  Campbell added when asked if a Premier League return could be on the cards: “It’s a tough question. It depends how driven he is to be the Premier League’s all-time scorer. I think if he does come back, that will be one of the major reasons – to top Alan Shearer. I don’t know. I’d love to see him back in the Premier League again but he’s doing really well at Bayern Munich now. It’s a flip of a coin for me, I’m not sure what his plans are going into the future – but I know he will be scoring goals wherever he is!”

  Kane, as a back-to-back Golden Boot winner in the Bundesliga, has been doing that again this season. With two hat-tricks included in his stunning tally, the 32-year-old has registered 25 goals in 2025-26 through 18 appearances for Bayern and England.

India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has pulled out of his county deal with Yorkshire due to a “personal issue at home”. Gaikwad was due to debut at North Marine Road against Surrey on July 22 and remain with Yorkshire until the end of the season.”Unfortunately Gaikwad’s not coming now for personal reasons,” Anthony McGrath, Yorkshire head coach, said. “We’re not going to have him for Scarborough or for the rest of the season. Leroy Sane has returned to the Germany squad for the final World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg and Slovakia, with Julian Nagelsmann also handing a shock first senior call-up to Koln’s breakout talent Said El Mala. The national coach says Sane has “earned his nomination” after previously casting doubt on his future with the national team due to his summer transfer to Galatasaray.

Sane returns after Nagelsmann warning

Nagelsmann has named his 25-man squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg and Slovakia, with several notable selections reflecting both immediate competitive needs and long-term national team planning.

The high-profile return is Gala winger Sane, who has been recalled for the first time since his summer transfer from Bayern to Galatasaray. Sane, who has contributed three goals and three assists in 14 matches for Galatasaray, last played for the national team in June and Nagelsmann warned he would need to excel after trading the Bundesliga for the Super Lig, declaring it a "worse league".

After confirming the 29-year-old's return on Thursday, Nagelsmann explained his decision at a press conference, saying: “I’ve been in constant and very good communication with Leroy Sane; he earned his nomination with strong performances in the Champions League and the Super Lig.”
