Palmeiras domina o Novorizontino, faz 3 a 0 e avança à semi do Paulista

MatériaMais Notícias

O Palmeiras é o primeiro time classificado à semifinal do Campeonato Paulista.

West Ham handed huge Milenkovic boost

West Ham United have been handed a massive boost in their pursuit of Nikola Milenkovic this week…

What’s the word?

The Fiorentina colossus has been subject to interest from the Irons for several months, with ExWHUemployee confirming last month that he is a target for manager David Moyes.

“The latest is a guy called Milenkovic from Fiorentina. There is interest in him, but I don’t think they’ve put any concrete offer in for him at all, but he is on the potential radar,” he said on ‘The West Ham Way’ podcast.

It’s gone quiet since but now it seems like the door has opened for the Premier League side to strike, according to reports in Italy.

Corriere dello Sport claim La Viola will sell the 23-year-old centre-back in the coming weeks, if he does not agree to a new contract, and they have already lined up some potential replacements.

GSB must act

If these reports are to be believed, then the Hammers have to make their move.

Moyes is believed to want to add a new star centre-back to his armoury before next month’s transfer deadline and the Serbian beast is a perfect candidate.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-west-ham-news-transfer-rumours-the-latest-gossip-and-much-more-2” title= “Read the latest West Ham news, transfer rumours, gossip and much more!”]

Milenkovic has been likened to one of the Premier League’s greats in Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic, which is an encouraging sign to begin with.

“Milenkovic is better than Vidic with the ball at his feet, and he is much calmer on the field,” Mozzart journalist Dejan Stankovic told ESPN FC. “He is the most talented centre-back Serbia have had since Vidic, and they definitely have one thing in common – both are fearless.”

Also dubbed a “beast” his former Partizan coach Ivan Tomic, who too made the same comparison, the towering 6 foot 5 defender averaged 3.6 clearances, 1.4 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per outing in 2020/21, via WhoScored.

He even recorded a seasonal 86% passing accuracy, proving he’s more than just a physically imposing presence but one that could be well-suited to the out-from-the-back way of playing in the Premier League.

GSB and the club’s hierarchy must now make a move for the £22.5m-rated star now that they have been handed a very encouraging boost over his future in Italy.

They’re evidently planning for the future without him, it would be foolish to not launch a bid now.

AND in other news, Moyes could seal West Ham bargain by signing £26m-rated “monster” who bullied Antonio…

Crystal Palace interested in William Saliba

Crystal Palace are interested in a deal to bring William Saliba to Selhurst Park this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by The Sun, who claim that the incoming Palace manager Patrick Vieira could look to tap up his former side Arsenal in the summer transfer window, with the 20-year-old centre-back a potential target for the Frenchman.

It is then reported that Mikel Arteta may be willing to loan the France U20 international out this summer, as the Spaniard is unsure as to whether Saliba is ready to play on a regular basis for the Gunners next season.

Vieira must move

While Saliba is yet to make his Premier League debut for Arsenal since joining the club back in the summer of 2019, considering just how much potential the defender appears to possess, it would very much appear as if securing a loan deal for the 20-year-old would be something of a coup for Palace this summer.

Indeed, having been sent on loan to OGC Nice in the January transfer window, the youngster highly impressed over his 20 Ligue 1 appearances for Adrian Ursea’s side, helping his team keep three clean sheets, as well as making an average of 1.3 interceptions, 0.8 tackles, four clearances and winning 3.5 duels per game.

The centre-back also impressed with his level of involvement in games and his range of passing, touching the ball an average of 83.6 times per fixture as well as completing an average of 66.8 passes in each game.

The returns saw the man Ursea dubbed a “leader” earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.01, ranking him as Nice’s third-best performer in the top flight of French football.

And, with Palace having released the likes of Scott Dann, Gary Cahill and Mamadou Sakho at the end of last season, Vieira will certainly be looking to bring in additions in the position this summer.

As such, it would seem highly advisable for the 45-year-old to indeed pursue a move for the £17m-rated Saliba ahead of their upcoming Premier League campaign, as the young Frenchman would appear to make a fantastic addition to the Palace backline.

Leeds join Saints in Firpo pursuit

An update has emerged on Southampton target Junior Firpo, regarding Leeds’ interest in his services.

What’s the talk?

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Leeds United have joined Southampton in the race to land Barcelona left-back Junior Firpo. The defender is looking to leave the Catalan giants in the coming months and does not want to join another side in La Liga.

The report claims Southampton and West Ham are also interested in Firpo, whilst Italian sides AC Milan and Napoli are said to be keen. Barcelona are open to either a permanent deal or a loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Must act swiftly

Southampton CEO Martin Semmens must now act swiftly in order to stand a chance of landing the Spaniard this summer.

With a host of sides in England and Italy competing for his signature it could be difficult for the Saints to to snap him up, which is why Semmens has to move quickly. If the Premier League chief can get in ahead of the other interested parties then he could be able to wrap up a deal before Leeds, West Ham or Napoli are able to prepare their respective offers.

A year ago, former Barcelona defender Eric Abidal said that the 24-year-old has the talent to become one of the best left-backs on the planet, highlighting the quality of player Southampton could potentially be signing ahead of next season.

He told Diario Sport, as transcribed by Tribuna:

“He’s a player with a lot of potential. He could be one of the best left-backs in the world. I always tell him that he must work hard and be aware of the (style of) play. He’s going to get better, for sure. It’s always difficult to get started at Barca.”

The Athletic have reported that Southampton are closing in on the signing of Romain Perraud from Brest in Ligue 1 and this should not have any impact on a deal for Firpo. Ralph Hasenhuttl wants to add at least two fullbacks to his squad and that opens the door to the Barcelona man arriving at St. Mary’s after Perraud to bolster the Austrian’s defensive options.

Therefore, Firpo could be a much-needed signing for the south coast outfit. the £105k-per-week beast has experience playing in La Liga and the Champions League for Barcelona, whilst Hasenhuttl’s current back-up left-back Jake Vokins was only able to play four times in League One on loan to Sunderland in the second-half of last season.

This suggests that the top-flight side will be able to make a sizeable improvement to their squad by bringing the Barcelona fullback in to compete with Perraud for a spot in the team, whether that be on loan or on a permanent basis.

Liverpool fans bemoan Mbappe update

A number of Liverpool supporters have been bemoaning Fabrizio Romano’s update on the Reds’ hopes of signing Kylian Mbappe this summer.

Jurgen Klopp’s side managed to battle their way to a third-placed finish in the Premier League last season following a strong end to the campaign. Although that was ultimately seen as a success, due to so much seemingly going against them between injuries and daft VAR decisions, the aim in 2021/22 must be to challenge for the title again.

[freshpress-quiz id=“359326”]

For that to happen, Klopp may need to make some new signings, and Liverpool have been continually linked with an audacious move for Mbappe. The Paris Saint-Germain superstar’s future is still up in the air, with his current deal expiring at the end of next season.

According to Romano on Twitter, however, ‘there’s nothing between Mbappe and Liverpool’, acting as an undoubted blow for the Reds, if true. The Frenchman is one of the most highly-valued players in world football, scoring 159 goals at senior club level despite being only 22.

Fulham’s Anguissa attracting interest

Fulham midfielder Andre Zambo Anguissa is attracting interest ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by CalcioMercato, who claim that the 25-year-old is a target of Serie A side Napoli in the summer transfer market.

The Cameroon international still has two years remaining on his current contract at Craven Cottage, meaning the west London side are in a strong negotiating position should an offer from Gli Azzurri materialise.

Khan must sell

Having joined Fulham from Olympique Marseille in what was a £30m move back in the summer of 2018, with Scott Parker himself claiming that he has “had a difficult time” at Fulham, we feel it would be fair to say that Anguissa has not quite lived up to his price tag for the Cottagers just yet.

In his debut season for the club, the defensive midfielder failed to score a single goal or provide an assist, however, he did make an average of 1.5 interceptions, 2.2 tackles and won 5.9 duels per game over his 22 Premier League appearances.

These metrics saw the £22.5m-rated man earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.65, ranking him as Fulham’s joint 11th-worst performer in the top flight that season.

After Fulham’s relegation to the Championship, the 25-year-old spent the 2019/20 season on loan at LaLiga side Villarreal, before returning to west London after the club’s immediate promotion back to the Premier League.

Anguissa’s performances improved this time around, as he registered three assists and created four big chances for his teammates, as well as making an average of 1.6 interceptions, 2.2 tackles and winning 7.3 duels per game over his 36 top-flight fixtures.

These returns saw the midfielder earn an average SofaScore match rating of 6.91, enough to rank him as Parker’s 10th-best performer in the Premier League last season.

However, following Fulham’s second relegation in three years, now would very much appear the perfect time for Tony Khan to be ruthless and cash in on the £67k-per-week man, as not only could the money saved on his extremely costly weekly wage be used to invest in other areas of the Fulham squad this summer, so too could whatever transfer fee the Cottagers receive.

As such, with Napoli believed to be interested in the 25-year-old this summer, it would appear highly advisable for the club’s sporting director to sanction Anguissa’s departure while the interest is there.

Team for Zimbabwe: Major changes unlikely

It certainly has been a camp with a difference. After a morning session of nets, fielding practice and stretching, John Wright adjourned his wards to an indoor session of tape viewing in the afternoon. Using aids of this kind is not synonymous with Indian cricket, but Wright seems to bringing about a metamorphosis. On the subject of changing things, high on Wright’s priorities is India’s away record. Despite being champs at home, the away victory remains as elusive as ever. The Zimbabwe tour provides an ideal opportunity to set the record straight. To achieve this, India are likely to opt for a bowling attack that has room for as many as five seamers. The trio of Javagal Srinath, Ajit Agarkar and Zaheer Khan are certainties to make the trip. With two warm up games to be played in the course of the Test series, India need to have enough hands on board in the fast bowling department. Reetinder Singh Sodhi might squeak in on virtue of the fact that he is likely to play the one-dayers. With Robin Singh not being selected in the initial probables list, the young Punjab all-rounder is a strong contender for a place. The slot for the fifth mediumpacer is still wide open, with Debashish Mohanty and Ashish Nehra being the contenders. If indications here in Bangalore are to be believed, it seems as though the Delhi left arm mediumpacer might well get the nod.Skipper Sourav Ganguly, speaking to reporters recently has given strong indications that Sameer Dighe will be the man doing the job behind the stumps. The Mumbai stumper’s cause has been amply helped by the fact that the two other keepers in the squad, Deep Das Gupta and Ajay Ratra have very little experience between them. With a vital unbeaten 22 that saw India to victory on the final day of the decisive third Test against Australia at Chennai in March, Dighe seems to have done enough to catch the eye of the selectors. The opening batsmen, Sadagoppan Ramesh and Shiv Sunder Das will lose no sleep this evening. The pair have done more than enough to be guaranteed of their places. With almost no competition for the openers’ slots, Das and Ramesh will make the tour to Zimbabwe. In the middle order, India’s greatest strength, VVS Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Ganguly will call the shots. Hemang Badani has done well in the few chances he has got in limited overs cricket, and has impressed with his levelheadedness. No prizes for guessing who the number one spinner will be. With 32 wickets in the three match series against Australia, Harbhajan Singh is easily the strike bowler of the lot. Anil Kumble, still out with a shoulder injury has had an uneven record – doing exceptionally well at home while flattering to deceive abroad. Whether Harbhajan Singh will go the same way remains to be seen. The Punjab offspinner however, can take heart from the fact that the Zimbabwe batting line up has plenty of left handers in it. As during the series against Australia the second spinner’s place is still very much up for grabs. With only two of the five national selectors in Bangalore on Wednesday, one day before the final 15 is selected, indications are clear that the team is unlikely to be drastically different from the one that played against Australia.

Birmingham willing to sell Mikel San Jose

Birmingham City are happy to let Mikel San Jose leave St. Andrew’s this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by We Are Birmingham, who claimed that the 31-year-old defensive midfielder looks set to leave the club in the coming days, having spent just one season with the Championship side.

Karanka flop

While the signing of San Jose was seen as something of a coup for Aitor Karanka’s Birmingham City side last summer, it would be a fair statement to make that the former Athletic Bilbao man did not quite live up to expectations in the second tier of English football this season.

Over his 27 Championship appearances for the Blues, only 19 of which came as starts, the £26.5k-per-week midfielder scored no goals, registered one assist and created two big chances, as well as making an average of one interception, 1.3 tackles and 0.5 key passes per game.

These metrics saw San Jose earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.70, ranking him as Lee Bowyer’s joint 13th-best performer in the second tier.

So, while his displays were by no means disastrous, when considering the fact that the £1.62m-rated Spain international is the club’s highest earner by quite a distance, the argument could easily be made that the Blues would be much better off investing the midfielder’s wages elsewhere.

As such, it would indeed appear highly advisable for Bowyer to attempt to move the 31-year-old on in the upcoming transfer market, as parting with the Spaniard would free up a considerable amount of wage budget, while also potentially bringing in a small transfer fee, that the 44-year-old could use on other targets in his bid to mount a push towards the Championship play-off places next season.

Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer ends the season in style

Last week, David Turnbull scooped the award for Celtic’s Player of the Season.

It was richly deserved for an impeccable first term at Parkhead. Having signed for the Hoops last summer, the Scot hasn’t let the negativity distract him.

From an offensive point of view, he’s been a shining light. Turnbull stepped up to the plate in the absence of James Forrest, scoring ten goals and registering eight assists.

That said, there was one player who no matter the scoreline and no matter how bad things got, they were always a beacon of hope and positivity. That happens to be Kristoffer Ajer.

The Norwegian is likely to leave Paradise this summer and if he does indeed head for the departure lounge, he can do so with his head held high.

Ajer has been a consistent figure, a man who is every bit a leader, someone who could easily fill the leadership void of Scott Brown.

Saturday’s clash with Hibernian was all about the affectionately known Broony. This was his final outing in a Celtic shirt but he waved farewell to the Hoops with a goalless draw.

That said, there was one stand out player, someone who should have stolen the plaudits over their tireless defensive midfielder.

Again, we come back to Ajer. He was the heartbeat of the side, marauding forward at regular intervals and dictating the game from centre-back.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-celtic-manager-and-transfer-news-howe-favre-mcgregor-mccann-tierney” title=”Read the latest Celtic manager and transfer news!”]

We should hardly be surprised with this performance, though. During negative times, the Norway international had been a shining example for the rest of the team.

Speaking earlier this season, John Hartson commented: “He’s grabbing the bull by the horns and he’s almost dragging the team through, even to these draws. You see him making these lung-bursting runs forward, he’s marauding with that big stride, he’s challenging, on his backside, making blocks, in the opposition’s penalty area.”

Hartson added: “He’s a credit to the rest of the players. They should all look at him and if they’d all adopted the same attitude as Ajer then might have made a better fist of it in terms of holding on to the title.”

That was exactly the attitude the defender showed against Hibs on Saturday.

He completed a whopping 97% of his passes and took 115 touches during the contest. Only Brown and Callum McGregor took more than Ajer.

Furthermore, the 23-year-old won seven ground duels, more than anyone to take the field at Easter Road this weekend.

For a centre-back, his performance was full of attacking intent. He completed two dribbles, the same number as Ryan Christie, and was fouled on three occasions. One of those came after a lung-busting 50 yard run forward.

Those numbers are remarkable for someone playing in the position Ajer features in.

If he does walk out the exit door this summer it’ll be a huge loss. However, you can’t be surprised. His ball-playing abilities will fit right at home in a number of top sides south of the border.

AND in other news, £12k-p/w dud must never play for Celtic again, he lost the ball every 5 touches y’day…
